LHP LaRon Mitchell Shines at Ed Santa Showcase

Colorado Rockies scout Ed Santa conducted his annual showcase for high school aged prospects in Morgantown, WV on October 20. The event attracted 165 players from West Virginia, Ohio and Pennsylvania. Over the next few days Prep Baseball Report will evaluate some of the most talented players by position and class.

                          LaRon Mitchell

Today's featured prospect is LaRon Mitchell, a 6-foot-4, 215-pound LHP from Susquehanna Township HS in Harrisburg, PA. Mitchell is an athletic lefty with very projectable size. He has solid mechanics and was effortless with a fastball that sat 84-86 while topping out at 87mph. Mitchell showed command of his complimentary pitches as well. He displayed good separation in velocity between his fastball and off-speed pitches. Mitchell threw a 74mph curveball that has tight rotation, a 76mph slider that showed good late bite and a 75 mph changeup that has some arm-side run.

The big left-hander was one of many talented pitchers on the day, but because of his size, athleticism and age, he stood out. Mitchell's impressive performance vaulted him into the Class of 2014 rankings at No. 19.
