2017 EARLY COMMITS

Andrew MayhewAndrew Mayhew, RHP, Pennridge HS (PA)
PBR Rank: #39 in PA Class of 2017 rankings
PBR Notes:
2016 High School Season (5/23/16) High three-quarter slot with quick arm. You might have to see it to believe it, but Mayhew's 5-foot-9, 130-pound frame produced a FB at 87-89 in the first inning that scraped 90 one time. He was 87-88 in the 2nd and still 86-87 in his 5th (and final) inning. As one might imagine, the pitch doesn't have a lot of plane to it, but it has life and some late armside run. Pounded zone (no walks) and struck out six, mostly swinging on FBs. Also featured a hard slider at 78-79 that has short, top-to-bottom tilt. Flashed a firm change-up at 84-mph, but did not utilized it often.

Mark MillerMark Miller, OF, Mooresville HS (NC)
PBR Rank: NA
PBR Notes:
Athletic, projectable 6-foot-1, 195-pound right-handed hitter runs well (6.90 60-yard dash) and has shown the ability to drive in runs. 2016 North Carolina All-State selection was a .405 hitter as a junior including five doubles, two triples and two home runs. Miller scored 24 runs and drove in 18 while compiling a .519 on base percentage.

Matt StevensonMatt Stevenson, RHP, North Penn HS (PA)
PBR Rank: #85 in PA Class of 2017 rankings
PBR Notes: 2016 Preseason All-State Showcase (Feb. 14, 2016)
6-foot-6, 215-pound righty displayed above average feel for two pitches out of a high 3/4 arm slot with some hip coil action to his delivery. Stevenson has a short take away but gets over his front leg well and his fastball that sat 82-85 showed late life with some arm-side run. The long-limbed junior also commanded his 78 mph changeup that flashed some late sink at near fastball arm speed. Stevenson's curveball is still a pitch in development. It shows 11/5 rotation at 69 mph. At 6-foot-6, Stevenson showcased above average command of his frame and athletic actions across-the-board that should allow for additional velocity yet to come.

Luke TrainerLuke Trainer, C, Conestoga Valley HS (PA)
PBR Rank: #46 in PA Class of 2017 rankings
PBR Notes:
2015 Elite Prospect Showcase (Nov. 7, 2015) Trainer posted the top defensive performance among this cohort at the event. In addition to solid receiving and blocking skills (good lateral agility; soft wall), his 72-mph arm strength from the crouch played up (2.00-2.09 pop times) due to quick feet, fundamental ball-to-ear transfer, and short, quick arm action. The 6-foot, 180-pound left-handed hitter demonstrates current gap power (87-mph exit velocity) and reasonable wheels for the position (7.41 60-yard dash). High back elbow and deep launch point create some length in his swing, although he does flash bat speed.

Aidan WelchAidan Welch, RHP, Roman Catholic HS (PA)
PBR Rank: #167 in PA Class of 2017 rankings
PBR Notes: 2016 Preseason All-State Showcase (Feb. 14, 2016)
6-foot-3 190-pound righty displayed increased velocity since we last saw him sitting 80-83 from a high 3/4 arm slot with a long arm action. The junior gets downhill well and displayed the ability to hold his velo from the stretch. Welch flashed a solid feel for a 73 mph slider and a 70 mph curveball with 11/5 shape. He displayed a 74 mph changeup with some arm-side run at fastball arm speed giving him a feel for four pitches.

Christian WingardChristian Wingard, LHP, Millersburg HS (PA)
PBR Rank: #144 in PA Class of 2017 rankings
PBR Notes:
6-foot-1, 175-pound three sport standout at Millersburg. Lefty led the Indians to a district championship as a junior. Left-hander has shown a mid-80s fastball, a sharp curveball with 1/7 rotation at 72-73 and advance feel for his changeup. Former quarterback of his high school football team chose to not play football in his senior season to concentrate on baseball.
