PA 2024 Rankings Update

Ted Williams
VP Scouting/Content

As the spring comes to a close and high school playoffs lurk around the corner, our staff sat down for a modest update to the 2024 class rankings. One of the deeper groups of pitching in recent memory is bolstered with power arms, front-lined by RHP Tegan Kuhns (Gettysburg), RHP Cade Oleary (Pittsburgh Central Catholic), and 1B/LHP Tague Davis (Malvern Prep).

Some shuffling occurred inside the Top 10, as SS
Jeff Lougee (Mechanicsburg) climbed to 4th overall along with a new face debuting at #10, RHP Dylan Hansen (Downingtown East). Multiple upside names remain on the fringe, such as RHP David Rodriguez Jr. (Father Judge) and RHP Kross Howarth (Methacton), while RHP Ian White Jr. (The Haverford School) projects as an arm seasoned enough to make the leap.

Included below is the list of the 350 ranked, Top 10 with scouting notes, top uncommitted by position, and an updated players to watch list.

THE TOP 10

Tegan Kuhns RHP / SS / Gettysburg, PA / 2024

The runaway favorite for PA Player of the Year at 6-foot-3, 165-pounds has simply been electric with a 1.21 ERA and .153 BAA while punching out 61 batters in 29IP. Full arm-swing, big stride length, and plus ride through the zone at 91-93, T94MPH. Spins banger 80-82 CB on a down plane with a future A/AVG split.

Tennessee commit

Cade Oleary RHP / 3B / Pittsburgh Central Catholic, PA / 2024

There's no shortage of upside in a 6-foot-4, 180-pound build. Was a winner at #PBRFG22 with a short takeaway and quick hand-speed on front side. Really holds direction into footstrike, now seeing stuff jump into the low-90's. Chance at three advanced pitches from a downhill release.

Mississippi State

Tague Davis 1B / LHP / Malvern Prep, PA / 2024

Equipped with one of the best CH in the class and a 90MPH FB to arm-side, Davis is flashing huge raw power offensively this spring, up to 6 HR from the LH box. There's legitimate two-way talent; slows the game down at 6-foot-3, 210-pounds with barrel-whip.

Louisville commit

Jeff Lougee SS / 2B / Mechanicsburg, PA / 2024

A prototypical leadoff hitter with significant added loft, Lougee grabbed a T101MPH EV at #NEProcase and has since terrorized pitching in the Mid-Penn. Repeatable swing molded to handle velocity with an effortless turn on the backside; impact performer on both sides of the ball.

Duke commit

David Shields LHP / OF / Mt. Lebanon, PA / 2024

A recent reclass after being named PA's #1 2025, Shields features a seasoned delivery and longer arm-action, hinting at a future velo spike. Had a couple loud summer looks at Lakepoint, where the full 3-pitch mix was on display T88MPH. Also a feared bat; 6-foot-2, 202-pounds (switch). Struck out 15 in last night's NO HITTER.

Miami U commit

Luke Costello 3B / RHP / Cathedral Prep, PA / 2024

As far as measurables go, few stack up to Costello's two-way abilities across the board. There's been continued strength gains with a 94.1MPH AVG EV at #NEProcase. Furthest blast travelled an estimated 389FT (wood), then went 91MPH positionally, and 88-89MPH on the bump.

Wake Forest commit

Anderson French C / OF / Red Land, PA / 2024

XL 6-foot-4, 200-pound body with stretch in the load and plus athleticism for size (6.83 run), French commanded all eyes this winter during a big round to the pull-side. Settled into a T97MPH EV at 370FT and created leverage off of the front foot. Will slide to a future OF or 1B spot and hit his way into lineup.

Duke commit

Chase Harlan 3B / OF / Central Bucks East , PA / 2024

If there was a name to circle from the offseason, it was 6-foot-3, 205-pound Chase Harlan, who broke a 3-year standing #NEProcase record with a 106.3MPH EV (x2). It's premium torque on the handle and next level juice, which translates to a 93MPH INF arm. Just finished walking off CB West last Friday on a no-doubt HR.

Cincinnati commit

Gavin Kelly C / SS / Pittsburgh Central Catholic, PA / 2024

Versatility is his middle name with 6.66 footspeed and the confidence to play two of the harder positions in the game (C/SS). The hands launch with no restriction from a high trigger, made to shoot line-drives all over the park at T94MPH EV. Currently slashing a ridiculous .534 in the WPIAL with 14 XBH through 18 G.

West Virginia commit

Dylan Hansen RHP / OF / Downingtown East, PA / 2024

The 6-foot-3, 215-pound imposing righty has found numerous velo increases in the past 6 months, highlighted by a lower 3/4 slot that imparts tough east/west movement. Pitched up to as high as T93-94MPH this winter with a sharp 81-83MPH SL to glove-side; deceptive.

Coastal Carolina commit
