Pennsylvania Pitchers of the Week

The regular season is in full swing and teams are battling for playoff positions. Today we take a look at the top pitching performances in the state over the past week. This feature will run on Thursdays for the remainder of the high school season and will include four players recognized for their performance over the past week. Players will be recognized by geographic location and will be voted on by the PBR staff of scouts.

Independent Schools Pitcher of the Week: Aaron Ross, Friend Central School, Class of 2013

  • Ross is a 6-foot, 170-pound RHP/2B that tossed a no-hitter this week against defending Friends League champions Germantown Friends. Ross walked two and struck out eight in his complete game gem.

Eastern PA Pitcher of the Week: Donovan Davis, Strath Haven HS, Class of 2013

  • Davis is a 6-foot, 180-pound RHP that helped Strath Haven remain undefeated, going 2-0 on the week. Davis threw six innings of two-hit, shutout baseball against Haverford High at Frawley Stadium and then followed that outing up with a seven inning performance in a win against Marple Newtown, allowing three runs while striking out seven. On the week Davis allowed just three runs in 13 innings of work, striking out 13 while registering two league wins. The stellar week helped Davis improve to 6-0 on the year with a 1.46 ERA for the undefeated Panthers. 

Central PA Pitcher of the Week: Casey Gray, Bellwood-Antis HS, Class of 2014

  • Gray is a 6-0, 175-pound RHP who spun a six-inning perfect game on Tuesday in a 10-0 victory over Glendale. The junior struck out 14 in the victory. 

Western PA Pitcher of the Week: Jared Skolnicki, Keystone Oaks HS, Class of 2013

  • Skolnicki is a 6-foot-2, 170-pound LHP that went 2-0 for the week to improve his season record to 6-0 with a 0.36 ERA. The Kent State recruit worked 15 innings for the week, yielding 10 hits and one earned run. He walked two batters and struck out 25 to improve his season totals to 8 walks and 60 strikeouts in 39 innings of work. Skolnicki picked up a seven inning complete game win over AAA #9 Chartiers Valley on Friday and followed that up with an eight inning complete game victory over South Fayette yesterday.
