By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

Today we take a look at the top pitching performances in the state over the past week. This feature will run on Thursdays for the remainder of the high school season and will include four players recognized for their performance over the past week. Players will be recognized by geographic location and will be voted on by the PBR staff of scouts.

Independent Schools Pitcher of the Week: Matt Galetta, Haverford School, Class of 2013

  • Galetta is a 5-foot-10, 160-pound LHP  that earned a big Inter-AC League win over Springside-Chestnut Hill on May 3. The lefty tossed a complete game four-hit shutout with no walks and seven strikeouts in a game the Fords won 6-0.

Eastern PA Pitcher of the Week: Dominic Cuoci, La Salle HS, Class of 2014

  • Cuoci is a 6-foot-3, 195-pound SS/RHP who had a stellar week on the mound. He earned two Catholic League wins on the week, hurling two complete games, struck out 11 and surrendered just one run. Perhaps the most most impressive stat of the Junior's week was the fact that he did not issue a single walk in 14 innings pitched.

Central PA Pitcher of the Week: Blake Furman, Conemaugh Valley HS, Class of 2014

  • Furman is a 6-foot-2, 170-pound RHP/3B who has had two impressive outings in a row. In his last two starts, Furman has pitched 12 innings and only surrendered one unearned run on three hits. The junior threw a complete-game no-hitter last Thursday, striking out 10 and walking one. On Monday, Furman went five innings, giving up an unearned run on three hits while striking out 11.

Western PA Pitcher of the Week: Brendan McKay, Blackhawk HS, Class of 2014

  • McKay continued his season and career dominance on the mound with a nine-inning, complete game no-hitter on Monday. McKay struck out 14 following up an 18 strikeout performance in his previous outing. The uncommitted junior, ranked No. 5 in the PA Class of 2014 improved to 6-0 this year and 21-1 for his career. McKay has been nearly unhittable this season, striking out 85 batters and compiling an ERA of 0.15.
