Preseason Preview: St. Joe's Prep (District 12)

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

St. Joe's Prep will be trying to unseat LaSalle College HS the defending PIAA AAAA State Champions in order to win a coveted District 12 Championship. The Hawks are coming off a 7-12 overall record and 4-8 conference mark in 2012 and return four starters along with four pitchers who have varsity experience. In order to improve on last year's finish and get past LaSalle College HS, they will have to rely on some underclassmen. Following is a look at members of the roster that Coach Joe Falcone will be relying on to lead the Hawks in 2013.

Class of 2013

  • Mullin RHP/1B Tom Mullin is a 6-foot-3, 205-pound Penn State recruit who tops   out at 87 mph. Mullin will be the staff ace and will be counted on to lead the  pitching staff. Mullin was a 2nd Team All-Catholic League Selection in 2012.
  • OF/DH Shane Williams is a 6-foot-1, 200-pound left-handed hitter who was  a 1st Team All-Catholic League selection in 2011 and followed that up by  being named 2nd Team in 2012.
  • C/3B Tim Rafter is a 6-foot, 195-pound prospect who is a hard-nosed player  who is also a football player.
  • SS/2B Pat O'dell and 2B/3B Frank Santore will be relied upon to provide  solid defense up the middle.

Class of 2014

  • CF/SS Jawan McAllister is a 5-foot-10, 170-pound prospect with plus speed.
  • LHP/1B Anthony Cacchione and OF/DH Chase Standen are both likely to see considerable innings at  multiple positions this season.

Falcone also has high hopes for a trio of underclassmen that could make an impact on the varsity lineup. RHP/1B Colin Cunningham (2015), SS Tyler Clark (2015) and 1B/RHP Joe Dumond (2016) could all see innings at the varsity level in 2013.
