Preseason Spotlight: Harbor Creek Huskies (District 10)

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

The Harbor Creek Huskies went 15-6 in 2012 and finished 3rd in their region at 7-3. With eight starters returning to long time Head Coach Tim McQueeney's roster, the prospects for a successful 2013 campaign are very bright.

IMThe name of the game at any level of baseball is pitching and Harbor Creek boasts one of the top Class of 2014 arms in District 10. Isaac Mattson, a 6-foot-2, 180-pound RHP returns for his junior season after earning Team MVP, All-Region 8, Region 8 Pitcher of the Year and 2nd Team All-State honors in 2012. Mattson went 6-2 with one save and a 0.69 ERA. He struck out 87 batters in 50.2 innings of work while walking just 12. Mattson is ranked No. 50 in the PA Class of 2014.

The supporting cast around Mattson is deep, led by C/3B Patrick Brennan. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound prospect hit .277 in 2012 with six doubles, a home run and 13 RBI. Seniors Nick Barclay (.305), Joe Zoltowski (.395), and Todd Goss, as well as junior Mitchell Fife should all have a roll in Harborcreek's success.

Harbor Creek lost a 1-0 decision to Grove City in the opening round of the 2012 District 10 playoffs and will likely carry the memory of that tough loss into this season. Region 8 is always very competitive and should once again be the same. Warren is the defending District 10 AAA Champion. Corry and General McLane are also in the hunt for a region title and District 10 playoff spot every year.
