Preseason All-State Showcase: Day One Highlights

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

A total of 53 prospects from three states took part on the first of two days of action yesterday in the 2016 Preseason All-State Showcase. Keystone State Baseball Academy in Manheim will once again play host today to and additional 40 players to conclude the event.

Day One action saw plenty of impressive performances with uncommitted senior RHP Jacob Kinsell (Carmichaels) turning in the most head-turning outing of the day. The 6-foot-1, 185-pounder flashed an impressive velocity spike since he sat 79-81 at two separate events in June of 2015. The righty sat 85-87 with the similar spikes in velocity on both of his secondary offerings.

The day began with a bang when nearly half of the position players in Session One ran sub-7.0 60-yard dash times. The top posted times belonged to players hailing from Lancaster County with 2018 OF Kyle Hess (Donegal) - 6.70, 2017 OF Nate Hess (Warwick) - 6.70 and 2017 OF Tracy Carr (Dallastown) - 6.72 turning in the top times of the day. Following a familiar theme, Session Two saw the day's top 60 posted by Lancaster Catholic junior C/OF Tyler Peters (6.63).

Lancaster County was also well represented by 2018 LHP/1B/OF Dillon Marsh (Lancaster Catholic), a Wake Forest commit, who turned in the top positional arm strength at 91 mph from the outfield. Marsh showed his promising two-way abilities by sitting 86-87 on the mound while registering a 97 mph bat exit velocity.

2018 3B/1B Drew Baughman (Cumberland Valley) topped all prospects when it came to bat exit velocity, registering an event record 100 mph velocity while swinging wood. The 6-foot-3, 220-pound switch-hitting Liberty University commit, also turned in the most impressive rounds of batting practice on the day.
