Preseason Preview: Homer-Center HS (District 6)

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

The Homer-Center Wildcats finished 5th in the Heritage Conference in 2012 with an overall record of 9-9. Coach Scott Bauer likes his team's chances heading into 2013 with seven starters returning from last year's roster. The Wildcats should be a fundamentally sound unit with good team speed. Bauer feels that pitching depth and a lack of power will be weaknesses that his team will have to overcome in order to improve upon last season's .500 performance. Following is a look at the members of the Wildcats roster who are likely to play a roll in determining the success of the 2013 campaign.

Class of 2013:

  • RHP Austin Fairman - 6'1", 185-pound pitcher went 2-3 with a 2.31 ERA with 58 strikeouts in 57 innings of work in 2012.
  • OF Matt Jones - 5'11", 165-pound senior hit .293 last season with nine stolen bases.
  • RHP Isaiah Carr - 5'11" transfer who should bolster the pitching staff.

Class of 2014:

  • BuziC Bryan Buzi - 6'0", 170-pound backstop hit .407 with six doubles and a triple in 2012.
  • OF Darren Carr - 6'0" transfer who should see time in the outfield this season.
  • RHP Anthony Caruso - 6'3", 170-pound RHP who went 1-1 with a 3.32 ERA last year.
  • OF Kolby Skultety - 6'3", 170-pound junior who will see his first significant varsity action this spring.

Underclassmen:

  • INF Ean Lee - 5'11", 165-pound sophomore who hit .333 as a freshman. Bauer feels like Lee is a player whose skills are on the rise.
  • LHP Stephen Novak - 6'0" freshman who has a solid curveball.
