Dan TrettelThere is less than two weeks until the culminating event of the fall, the Elite Prospect Showcase. Registrations for the event will not close until October 29, but today we today we take a look at some of the top catching prospects that are scheduled to attend.

The Class of 20014 will be represented by C/3B Dan Trettel (North Allegheny HS). He is a 5-foot-11, 180-pound catcher with athleticism. Trettel runs a 7.0 60-yard dash and has shown the capability to move to 3B and to the outfield as a defender. He has shown consistent pop times of 2.00-2.06 on throws of 73 mph from the crouch. Trettel is just beginning to mature into his frame and has a big upside.

West Virginia Class of 2015 catcher Zach Minnick (Logan HS) comes into the event with the most hype. Ranked No. 1 in WV and No. 19 in the PBR combined rankings, Minnick led Team Pennsylvania to a win over Team Illinois in the Midwest Future Games in August with a two run home run. The 6-foot, 215-pound C//3B has showcased a 96 mph bat exit velocity and pop times of 1.79-1.85 on throws of 83 mph from the crouch.

C/3B Ben Burman (Episcopal Academy) will also represent the Class of 2015 well. The 6-foot-1, 205-pound right-handed hitter went 5-for-7 with a double and two RBI in game action over two days at the PA Underclass Games in July. He has showcased an 88 mph bat exit velocity and a 76 mph arm from the crouch.

Jake Pae (Susquehanna Township HS) should stand out among Class of 2016 backstops in attendance. The 6-foot-2, 165-pound prospect is raw but has shown a 77 mph throwing arm from the crouch and athleticism. Pae will be an interesting follow as his frame continues to develop and as he improves on his catch and throw techniques.
