Randy Dobnak is a 6-foot-2, 195-pound RHP who sits 83-85 and has touched 87mph. The South Park HS senior committed to Alderson-Broaddus College in Phillipi, West Virginia this week. Dobnak took some time to discuss his decision with Prep Baseball Report.                                 

PBR:  Where have you decided to attend college and why did you make this choice?
Dobnak: I decided to commit to Alderson-Broaddus College because it offers what I would like to major in and has a great baseball program.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?
Dobnak: I was considering Concord University but A-B was the best choice for me.

PBR:  Was distance from home a factor in your decision?
Dobnak: It was not a big factor for me. A-B is less than two hours from home and will allow my friends and family the opportunity to see me play.

PBR:  Where did the coaches first see you?  How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?
Dobnak: They saw me pitch against Montour at their home field, and they contacted me through emails and phone calls. We had conversations back and forth and were able to build a relationship.

PBR:  What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?
Dobnak: They expect me to be a pitcher and that’s what I would like to do.

PBR:  What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help your team?
Dobnak: My biggest strength would be that I am a team player and I do whatever it takes to get the win at the end of the day.  I will help the team by giving them a chance to win every time I take the mound.

PBR:  Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable experience from this past summer?
Dobnak: I played for the Independent Players out of Springdale, PA., in the West Penn Elite Baseball League.  My most memorable experience was when I had a pinch hit walk off homerun, but they called it a foul ball. I ended up returning to the plate and walking to drive in a run and win the game.

PBR:  What is your current GPA?
Dobnak: My current GPA is roughly a 3.35.

PBR:  Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?
Dobnak: My goals are the same as they always are; work hard in the offseason and when it comes to the season, give it everything it takes to capture that state championship ring!
