Q&A With University at Albany Commit Michael Adams

Michael AdamsMichael Adams has impressed at several PBR events over the past 18 months. The 6-foot-4, 220-pound RHP/1B sits in the low 80's off the mound and commands three off speed pitches for strikes. Adams went 1-1 with two saves in 2012 working out of the bullpen for Cumberland Valley HS. He is likely to log plenty of innings as a starter in his senior season. Offensively, Adams had a banner season, hitting .422 with 11 RBI. Prep Baseball Report caught up with Adams to discuss his college choice and the recruiting process.

PBR:  Where have you decided to attend college and why did you make this choice?

Adams: I have decided to attend the University at Albany because I felt like it was the best fit for me academically and athletically.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?

Adams: I was also considering Towson, VCU, Furman, Millersville, Shippensburg and Kutztown. 

PBR:  Was distance from home a factor in your decision?

Adams: Distance was not a factor in my decision; I wanted to attend the school that would give me the best opportunity to compete at the highest level.

PBR:  Where did the coaches first see you?  How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?

Adams: The coaches first saw me at an Elite Baseball Showcase in Maryland. The coaches then came to see me pitch at a legion playoff game and showed further interest in me.

PBR:  What role do the coaches expect you to play your first year on campus?

Adams: They expect me to compete for a starting job my Freshman year.

PBR:  What is your biggest strength as a player and how do you feel that will help your team?

Adams: My biggest strength as a player would be my competitiveness, which would benefit my team because I will work hard to win.

PBR:  Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable experience from this past summer?  

Adams: I play for Hampden Legion, Elite Baseball and Hampden Travel teams during the summer. My most memorable experience would be playing in Hanover for the legion regionals.

PBR:  What is your current GPA?

Adams: My current GPA is a 3.5

PBR:  Now that you have your commitment out of the way, what are your goals both individually and for the team going into your senior season?

Adams: My goals would be to continue improving as a player and to improve my off speed pitches. As a team, we want to win our division and make a run at states.

PBR: How did Prep Baseball Report aid you in gaining exposure as a potential college baseball recruit?

Adams: Prep Baseball Report enabled me to attend showcases, which helped me to get my name out there with college coaches.
