Prep Baseball Report

Q&A with St. Joseph's University Commit Tim Brennan

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

Tim BrennanTim Brennan is a 6-foot-2, 170-pound RHP/SS from Holy Ghost Prep. He was named 1st-team all-Bicentennial Independence as a sophomore. Brennan went 6-0 with 8 saves and finished with a 0.55 ERA. He was also a Carpenter Cup selection as a sophomore, named to the Second Team All-Southeastern PA Baseball Team by The Philadelphia Inquirer, and named to the Golden Team by the Bucks County Courier Times.

The righty has polished mechanics and fluid rhythm in his delivery. Brennan sat 81-84 out of a high 3/4 arm slot and pounded the strike zone with significant arm side run during the Fall College Prospect Program at Temple University. He showed a solid mix of complimentary pitches, utilizing a 75 mph changeup at near fastball arm speed and a 73 mph 11/5 breaking curveball in addition to his fastball. Brennan has an athletic frame that suggests additional velocity is on the way. He also impressed in June at the PA Top Prospect Games.

Brennan recently announced his verbal commitment to St. Joseph's University. Below he talks with Prep Baseball Report about his decision and the process that led to it.

PBR:  Where have you decided to attend college and why did you make this choice?

Brennan: I have decided to attend St. Joseph's University. One of the reasons I made this choice is because I think St. Joe's is a great fit for me academically. Also, I love the campus and the facilities. Coach Hamburg and his staff are awesome and were a huge factor in my decision. Having the opportunity to contribute as a freshman was also important.

PBR:  What other schools were you considering?

Brennan: The other Division I schools that I was considering were Rider, VCU, Bucknell, Columbia, and Temple. I was also considering several DII and DIII schools.

PBR:  Was distance from home a factor in your decision?

Brennan: Distance from home was not a major factor in my decision, but being close to home does have some advantages and that is an added bonus for me.

PBR:  Where did the coaches first see you?  How did your relationship develop with their coaching staff?

Brennan: The coaching staff first saw me at the PA Top Prospect Games at Bucknell University. My relationship with them developed quickly this fall after I attended the St. Joe's Future Prospect Camp in the beginning of September. After that, we have had frequent contact and I have spent a lot of time on campus getting to know the school, team, and coaches.

PBR:  You are a RHP/SS at the present time. Do you foresee yourself being a two-way player in college?

Brennan: At this point I am a pitcher who will have the opportunity to make an impact right away. There is a possibility that I will be able to get some time in the infield, but pitching is my primary focus.

PBR:  Who do you play for in the summer and what was your most memorable experience from this past summer?

Brennan: This past summer I played for All American Baseball Academy 18U Stars.  All American gave me the opportunity to play on a showcase team which was great. It allowed me to visit many college campuses and begin contacting college coaches.  My most memorable baseball experience this season came in the spring. This past season our team at Holy Ghost Prep reached the State Quarterfinals which was the most successful season in school history.

Brennan: Prep Baseball Report was a huge factor in my college recruiting process.

PBR:  What is your current GPA?

Brennan: My current GPA is a 3.5.

PBR: How did Prep Baseball Report aid you in gaining exposure as a potential college baseball recruit?

Brennan: Prep Baseball Report was a huge factor in my college recruiting process. By participating in PBR events in the summer and fall, I was able to be seen by several college coaches. Also, by having my profile and videos available on the PBR website, it gave other college coaches the opportunity to learn about me as well.
