Red Land's Benny Montgomery Named PBR Pennsylvania Player of the Year

Greg Williams
Pennsylvania Director of Scouting

Prep Baseball Report is excited for the return of Player of the Year Awards, presented by Big League Chew, after the 2020 season was cut short and 2021 generated some incredible individual moments and performances throughout Pennsylvania. As the spring high school season comes to a close, Prep Baseball Report is excited to announce one player who emerged ahead of the competition at all levels in the state. This player has been selected not only for their outstanding statistical numbers, but also for their overall effect on their high school program.

2021 OF BENNY MONTGOMERY (Red Land HS)

Benny Montgomery helped lead Red Land to a repeat appearance in the PIAA 5A state finals (2019 5A state champs). Along the way the Virginia recruit hit .423 with seven doubles, four triples and seven home runs. The lead-off hitter scored 45 runs and drove in 22 while compiling a .529 on base percentage, a .794 slugging percentage and a 1.323 OPS for the state runners-up.

Benny Montgomery’s all-around performance, as well as the impact he has had on the Red Land High School baseball program, has earned him the 2021 Prep Baseball Report Pennsylvania Player of the Year honors.

Benny Montgomery has been selected by the staff of Prep Baseball Report of Pennsylvania. The team of PBR area scouts who covered the high school baseball season throughout the spring selected Montgomery amongst a strong group of candidates from across the state. The Prep Baseball Report staff has been diligently scouting and covering games at diamonds across the state this spring to bring parents, athletes and fans the most comprehensive coverage of amateur baseball across the United States. The dedication and coverage allow Prep Baseball Report a credible way to identify the top athletes each year who best represent the state of Pennsylvania.

Montgomery follows the most recent Pennsylvania Player of the Year, Chris Newell (Malvern Prep / Virginia), who was named the national Freshman of the Year in 2020 following his first year in a collegiate uniform.
