#14 council rock hs south @ abington hs (april 2)

Fans of good, old-fashioned baseball can breathe easy, as small ball and execution are alive and well in the SOL National. Six of the runs in Council Rock South's 5-4 nine-inning come-from-behind victory over Abington scored via squeeze bunt, sac fly, or infield grounder with a runner on third base and less than two outs.

FlemingRutgers-bound 2013 LHP Ryan Fleming (right) started for CRS, giving up one hit in four innings, while allowing five walks and recording six strikeouts. His fastball sat 83-85 and he mixed in a solid 11/5 CB at 67-68 and a CH at 74-76. Fleming was also the only player to plate runners via base hit, flaring a two-out, two-run single in between the shortstop and left fielder to tie the game in the top of the seventh.

Fleming was relieved by 2014 RHP Matt Walsh, who went the final five innings (1 R, 1 H, 2 BB, 2 K) to pick up his first win of the young season. Standing 6-foot-4, Walsh's fastball sat 78-80, touching 81, and appeared to have a bit of life at the end. He also featured a big, slurvy breaking ball at 66-67 and quick feet on pickoff attempts.

2014 left-handed hitting SS Will Faccenda set the table for the CRS offense, picking up three singles and a walk in five plate appearances. Faccenda hits from an open stance and his hands work. He has above average speed (4.19 home-to-1B on a push bunt) that he used to pick up two stolen bases. He moved well on the infield, although could easily end up in the outfield at the next level.

2013 IF Eric Tidwell paced the Abington offense out of the leadoff spot. Tidwell scored the first run of the game after reaching on a walk, and drove in the Ghosts' next two runs on squeeze bunts. He showed solid defensive actions, although his arm strength and feet would play better at second base in college.
