4A #5 Central bucks east @ hatboro-horsham (april 23)

In a game during which both starters were done after five innings, the Hatters' bullpen was just a bit better in a 6-5, 8-inning triumph.  Starting pitcher Ryan Kelly (5 IP, 6 H, 5 R, 5 ER, 4 BB, 7 K) singled in the winning run to seal the comeback from a 5-2 deficit.  The Patriots suffered their first loss in SOL Continental play, but maintain a one-game edge over CB South, with the Hatters now two games back.

Elon-bound Robbie Welhaf didn't have his best outing (5 IP, 5 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 4 BB, 4 K), but did put CBE in position to pick up the win in a game where his stuff was ahead of his command.  Welhaf worked 86-88 and touched 90 early on with a FB that lacked significant movement, although showed occasional cut action.  He pitched to all four quadrants, in and around the zone.  Welhaf also mixed in a solid CB at 71-75 and a rare CH.

Offensively for CBE, 2015 SS David Yanni (right) is a prospect to closely watch.  Yanni moves well on the infield and shows an average arm from a low slot, which occasionally caused his throws to sink.  The left-handed hitter picked up two knocks on the day, an opposite field double over the head of the left-fielder and a ringing single to center.

OF Eric Lane provides Hatboro-Horsham with an impressive 2015 left-handed hitter of its own.  Lane's short stroke allowed him to battle Welhaf his first at-bat, fouling off three pitches before finally succumbing on the 8th pitch.  He coaxed a walk in his second trip, before picking up a barreled single in the 4-hole against CBE's reliever.  His best contact of the day was a loud line-out to right that immediately preceded Kelly's heroics.

Kelly was relieved on the mound by 2014 David Brown, who was dominant in picking up the win (3 IP, 0 H, 2 BB, 3 K).  The fiery RHP has a long, loose arm and throws from a low slot, which varied from 3/4 to sidearm.  He exhibits a low elbow which is more conducive to him having success at the lower end of that spectrum (he elevated the ball when his slot crept up).  Brown's FB was 76-78 and was highly effective when thrown off his solid 69-70 CH and, at times, wicked 66-67 SL that produced a number of swing-throughs.
