Unsigned Senior Spotlight: RHP Eric Ligda

By Greg Williams
PA Director of Scouting

Eric LigdaAmong the top unsigned senior right-handed pitchers in Pennsylvania, Eric Ligda is among the best. Currently ranked No. 99 in the PA Class of 2014, Ligda is one of just three righties yet to announce a college commitment in the top 100 spots in the rankings.

The 6-foot-5, 185-pound senior spent two months of the winter of 2013 in a walking boot following ankle surgery and really began to hit his stride this past fall. Ligda, a member of Team Pennsylvania at the 2012 Midwest Future Games, sat 82-85 out of a 3/4 arm slot with arm side run to his fastball in the PA Fall College Prospect Program. He showcased a 72 mph 11/5 breaking curveball and a 73 mph splitter that he threw routinely for strikes. Ligda sat 84-86 in a subsequent, late fall workout. His fall performance followed a solid summer playing with the B2B Bombers, going 4-0 with a 0.93 ERA over 30 innings of work. Ligda yielded just 18 hits and struck out 19.

While Ligda has yet to announce his college plans that does not mean that he hasn't been actively communicating with a number of schools. With his interest in Engineering as a major being at the forefront of his college search, Ligda has taken his time to evaluate his options. He continues to stay in contact with coaches at Purdue, Penn State and Millersville while he prepares for the upcoming high school season.

Ligda is determined to put the winter of 2013 behind him as he prepares for his senior season. He has started training this winter with the Titus Sports Academy a couple times a week, focusing on overall strength, especially legs, core and flexibility.  Ligda is also playing varsity basketball for Avon Grove. Following the basketball season he will increase his strength training to three times a week until baseball starts.
