Updated Class of 2016 Rankings Released

With four events in the books, it is time to release our summer update to the class of 2016 player rankings, which have grown from 175 to more than 200 prospects. Below is a sneak preview of the updated top ten, along with notable risers and additions.

Change at the top

Holy Ghost Prep shortstop/pitcher Nolan Jones has ascended to the top spot. The left-handed hitter features an easy stroke with pop and plenty of room to continue to add strength to his 6-foot-4, 190-pound frame. He also sports an upper-80s fastball that will reach into the low-90s on occasion and a biting mid-70s slider.

risers

Council Rock North outfielder Brandon McIlwain is a freak athlete who, until this year, was more well-known as a top 100 football recruit. The South Carolina commit, listed as a "Dual Threat QB" for his gridiron ranking, joins our top ten, bringing plus wheels and serious strength in his swing to the diamond.

Mechanicsburg Area right-handed pitcher Hayden Seig vaults into our top 20 behind his 6-foot-4, 200-pound frame that generates a mid-80s fastball with more in the tank and the makings of two solid secondary pitches.

The Hill School right-handed pitcher Jack Hogan, who is verbally committed to Tulane, jumps into the top 25. While we have not seen him in person yet, credible reports have him with a developed 6-foot-2, 215-pound frame and featuring an upper-80s fastball that will touch 91 with a mid-70s curveball.

newcomers

Southern Fulton right-handed pitcher Trent Rider, who recently committed to College of Charleston, joins Hogan as a newcomer to the top 25. Reports have his stuff improving from the spring to the summer, with a mid-80s fastball now climbing to 87-88 and occasionally scraping 91, along with an upper-70s slider. Command has never been an issue, as the 6-foot-4, 215-pounder struck out 104 against five walks this spring.

Twin Valley right-handed pitcher A.J. Alexy rounds out the updated top 25. He features a mid-80s fastball that has touched 89. Secondary stuff is still developing, but 6-foot-3, 175-pound frame is highly projectable.
