Updated PIAA Class AA Super 16 (5-4-15)

As we head down the home stretch of this weather-condensed season that has many leagues gearing up for conference tournaments, below is our second in-season update of our PIAA Class AA Super 16 (i.e. the teams we believe are best positioned to reach the state tournament, if district tournaments started today). A couple of notes:

1. X-Y under "Berth" = [District]-[Bid]. For example, 3-2 is the runner-up from District III.
2. If multiple districts are listed on one line, those districts will form a sub-regional to determine that bid.
3. If any of this data is incorrect (specifically, team records), please let us know.

2015 PIAA Class AA Super 16 (records through May 3rd)
Berth School Record Notes
3-1 Lancaster Catholic
 13-4 Went 5-1 since last update. The Crusaders are running away with Lancaster-Lebanon League Section 4, as the pitching staff continues to dominate, having allowed three runs or less in fourteen games.
4-2 Hughesville
 7-6 Went 3-3 since last update. Wide-open race for the #2 spot behind Loyalsock Twp. The Spartans are virtually the only in-state team to give the Lancers a game (losing 4-2 and 8-5 to the back-to-back state champs).
       
12-1 Neumann-Goretti
 11-2 Went 4-1 since last update. Saints sit a half game behind district 3A favorite Archbishop Wood in the Philadelphia Catholic League standings. Ace LHP Pat Doudican is on pace with rehab to be at full-strength for post-season.
1-1 Devon Prep
 12-1 Went 5-0 since last update. Offense has posted at least eight runs in all but two games, including a very impressive win last week over district 3A favorite Holy Ghost Prep.
       
4-1 Loyalsock Township 14-2 Went 8-0 since last update. In only one of those games did their opponent keep the final spread at less than six runs. The Lancers are the class of the district and, for that matter, the state until proven otherwise.
2-1 Lakeland 10-2 Went 5-1 since last update. Some other schools are nipping at the Chiefs heels here, but early-season wins over solid 3A programs in Scranton Prep and Wyoming Area bolster the Chiefs resume.
       
11-1 North Schuylkill
 12-4 Went 4-2 since last update. Both of those losses came against district 3A favorite Pottsville Area. A handful of teams could have slotted here, but the Spartans remain for now based on strength of schedule and sitting only one loss behind Pottsville Area in Schuylkill League Division 1.
12-2 Prep Charter 6-5 Went 2-2 since last update. The Huskies, who still sit as the top 2A team in Philadelphia Public League Division A, recorded wins over PPL 3A favorite Franklin Towne Charter and district 1A favorite Masterman.
       
5-1/
6-1		 Central 13-2 Went 5-0 since last update. Held eleven opponents to three runs or less. The Scarlet Dragons have beaten sub-region 3A favorite Somerset Area and lost a tight contest against sub-region 4A favorite Altoona Area.
3-2 Camp Hill
 11-4 Went 5-1 since last update. Impressive win over a district 3A favorite in East Pennsboro and a narrow loss to district 3A contender Northern York. Have allowed two or less runs 11 times (four or less all but once).
       
8-1/
9-1		 Cranberry Area 6-2 Went 3-1 since last update. Info on this squad can be hard to come by, but as long as LHP Dylan Cyphert is healthy (he struck out 19 in eight innings against Clarion Area last week), the Berries are the favorite here.
7-2 Neshannock 11-5 Went 2-2 since last update. The Lancers seemingly had control of WPIAL Section 5, but it has become a dogfight that will likely end up in a three-team tie. Neither of the other two have a non-conference win as impressive as Neshannock knocking off WPIAL 3A favorite West Allegheny.
       
7-1 Keystone Oaks 11-2 Went 5-1 since last update. The Golden Eagles ascend to the top spot after clinching the WPIAL Section 4 title. Pitching staff has held opponents to three runs or less in ten games. Two losses by combined three runs.
6-2 Bishop McCort Catholic
 13-3 Went 4-1 since last update. Tough call to bump Bellwood-Antis (14-3 record) from this spot (as they also went 4-1), but the Crushers strength of schedule (and pedigree) gives the LHAC leaders the ever-so-slight edge over the ICC North leading Blue Devils.
       
10-1 Hickory 9-2 Went 3-1 since last update. The Hornets are running away with District X Region 2, holding a 2.5 game lead (three in the loss column) over their nearest competitors. Have held nine opponents to three runs or less.
7-3 Riverside 12-2 Went 3-1 since last update. The Panthers join Neshannock a half game back of Shenango in WPIAL Section 5. Not much separates any of the teams fighting for this spot. At least half a dozen have more than a reasonable chance to advance to the state tournament.
