2019 State Games Notebook: Day 1 Games

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

The 2nd day of the State Games of NC featured the first day of game play action.  Four games were on the slate, all taking place at the beautiful BB&T Ballpark in uptown Charlotte, home of the Chicago White Sox AAA affiliate the Charlotte Knights.

The games are all 7 inning affairs with coaches having some freedom in the management of their lineups and substitutions.  Another large scouting contingent was on hand.  Below are recaps from each game with player notes.

Game 1

Region 8 – 0       Region 4 – 10

Player Notes – Region 4

+ Luke Craig (LHP, Southern Lee HS, 2020) – UNC Wilmington commit.  Maybe the most productive outing of the entire day, flooding the zone and creating a lot of swing and miss with fastball and breaking ball.  Fastball ranged 82-85 from an easy ¾ slot.  Breaking ball used hard 2/8 tilt at 69-73.
