TEAM GREEN

Austin Gomm SS / 2B / Port Credit, ON / 2020

Report: Uncommitted 2020 had himself a solid showing, with the steady defensive actions we’ve been accustomed to at shortstop, range to both sides with arm strength to bode. Ran a 6.79 while putting together two solid rounds, showing quickness and strength in the hands while using the entire field, spraying hard contact around. Looking to go the juco route, he’s a big time get for a two year school.

Alfonso Villalobos 3B / RHP / Chene bleu, QC / 2020

Report: Villalobos, a third-baseman out of Quebec showed well at the plate on Scout Day. It’s a powerful right-handed swing with intent to do damage towards the baseball. He showed off raw pull-side power, sending multiple balls off the wall in left-field. He will be a fun watch at the plate, and will be a key cog in Team Green’s lineup.

Justin Thorsteinson LHP / 1B / Langley, BC / 2020

Report: Thorsteinson, a two-way player out of B.C came out swinging in BP. From the left-side of the box, Thorsteinson displayed a short, clean stroke with bat speed, he controls his body well and has a solid foundation for his swing. He looked to use the pull-side of the field, and did so with power, sending a ball over the wall to right-field. A must watch on the mound, Thorsteinson can really handle the bat and should be an enjoyable watch this week.

TEAM BLACK

Bennett Freiter C / 1B / Foothills Composite, AB / 2021

Report: Fretier, a right-handed hitter for Manitoba stood out in the box in his round for Team Black. There's some strength and quickness at the plate where he makes good use out of his lower half and drives towards the ball. He has some bat speed and it’s loud sweetspot contact with potential to hit for some power down the road. He is compact and still with his actions, and has the makings to hit at the next level. Interesting name to follow over the course of the week.

Brando Leroux SS / 2B / St augustine, ON / 2021

Report: Leroux, a 2021 switch hitting shortstop was a standout on Scout Day at the Rogers Centre. In the infield, he positions himself correctly with clean glove actions and a quick, short release. He is one of the better fielding infielders at the event, and he displayed his tools loudly on Day 1. At the plate, there’s bat speed and quickness throughout, with bat-to-ball ability and consistent sweet spot contact from both sides. He displayed some sneaky power from the right-side, and that could eventually become a component of his game. Lots to like with Leroux, and we look forward to seeing more of him.

Drew Lawrence OF / RHP / H.B Beal Secondary, ON / 2021

Report: Andrew Lawrence an outfielder from the Great Lakes Canadians had a strong outing for Tournament 12’s Scout Day. The 6-foot 185 pound uncommitted 2021 Grad, displayed a strong arm from the outfield, throws were on a line and had good carry and skip off the turf, moving well in his lower half. On offence, Lawrence had solid rounds of BP as baseballs were jumping off the barrel when he was under control and finished his swing. Lawrence is quiet and compact, with the bat speed through the zone. Will be exciting to watch Lawrence for the remainder of Tournament 12.

TEAM ORANGE

Bryce Arnold SS / 2B / Blessed Trinity, ON / 2020

Report: Arnold, a 2020 Campbell commit, was another who had a strong overall day, running a 6.72 and impressing on both sides of the ball. Actions were good defensively, moved very well side-to-side and was smooth to his backhand with carry on his throws. Really impressive line drive swing/approach during his two rounds. Seemed every ball was hard-hit on a line to the left-centre gap. Swing is short, smooth and has moxy in the box.

Jonny McGill C / 3B / J.N. Burnett Seconday School, BC / 2020

Report: McGill, an uncommitted 2020 out of B.C., showed some quick-twitch in the box and bat speed from the left-side. Really uses his hips to help the bat fly through the zone which helped him send several balls to the warning track. Still room to add strength to his 5-foot-11, 180-pound frame which could help take his offensive game to another level. The ball was flying off the bat today for McGill and he could prove to be a nice get at the right program.

Nicholas Thibodeau C / Notre Dame Catholic, ON / 2020

Report: The uncommitted 2020 catcher from GCL had his power on display offensively and defensively while running a 7.00 sixty. Physical swing from the right-side, displayed power to all fields, something we hadn’t seen much of in the past. Bat speed and 6-foot, 190-pound frame generate the power in the box. Was quick behind the plate with carry on his throws. Continues to develop and improve on both sides of the ball.
