2021 Area Code Games: Position Player Standouts

Nathan Rode | Shooter Hunt

After a one-year stint at LakePoint, the Area Code Games returned to the West Coast this summer, albeit at San Diego instead of Long Beach State. For five days, scouts got a look at some of the top prospects for the 2022 MLB Draft. We have two pieces to wrap up our coverage of the event, starting with a look at some standout position players from each team.

ATHLETICS

+ The state of California had the two biggest helium risers at the event (Nick Peoples), and OF Henry Bolte (Palo Alto HS, CA) was clearly the representative from the northern part of the state. The Palo Alto native and Texas Longhorns recruit fills out the uniform at 6-foot-3, 195-pounds with wide, broad shoulders, and a lean frame that oozes both athleticism and more physical projection. A right-handed hitter, he puts the strength to good use at the plate where quick hands produce impressive bat speed with a flat path through the zone. One of the loudest moments of the entire event came when Bolte let a pitch travel deep before delivering a thundering barrel that sent a ball sailing over the right field wall where it shattered a dorm room window on the top floor. He played with lots of energy all week, looking to swipe both second and third base (successfully more often than not) each time he got on. Getting some reps in center field, he likely profiles best at a corner spot although the athleticism more than warrants a look in center field to start. There is some swing and miss present with minor barrel inconsistencies, but it appears like more of a repetition fix, and the upside is clearly exciting. The strong week from Bolte pushes him into the upper echelon of the California class, which by definition also makes him a strong national follow as well.
