2021 Experts' Draft
July 10, 2021
Shooter Hunt | Nathan Rode | David Seifert
In the Experts' Draft, Shooter Hunt, Nathan Rode and David Seifert ditch the real-world intel and embrace a universe in which they're the scouting directors and get to make the picks based on who they like. And with the lack of a clear-cut No. 1, it was the perfect year to let Shooter have the first pick.

Pirates (Shooter) |

A potential five-tool shortstop with great makeup is easy to build around. It also helps that he likely won't command the same bonus as Jack Leiter or Kumar Rocker. This is a big draft for the Pirates with the largest pool. Expect first-round grades for multiple picks because of this one.

Rangers (Seifert) |
Jack Leiter |

I just can't pass on Captain Jack. He combines present stuff with performance and there's even more ceiling remaining, as he projects a future frontline major league starter. |
3 |
Tigers (Rode) |
Kumar Rocker |

The margin may be narrow and there certainly isn't a consensus, but I'm still of the opinion that Rocker is the top talent available. My only hesitation was that injecting an up-the-middle into Detroit's system wouldn't be a bad thing. You don't draft on need in baseball, but when need crosses with best available talent, it's defensible. Even so, six months ago, the thought of getting a guy like Rocker third overall was a pipe dream. |
