2021 Junior Future Games: Team Carolina- Game 1 Recap

Team Carolina- 4  Team Indiana- 5

Team Carolina took on Team Indiana in the first round of pool play on Thursday afternoon. Trailing 2-0 Team Carolina got on the board in the 3rd scoring runs on a Josh Hammond sac fly to center and a passed ball later in the inning to tie the game. 

Team Carolina added a run in the 4th on an RBI single from Ethan Gilchrist and added another run in the 5th. Trailing 5-4 the game ended as the bottom of the 6th began due to the 2 hour time limit rule. 

Brandon Benkovics and Sean Jenkins put together quality outings on the mound and the team competed and battled throughout. Team Carolina will look to bounce back on Friday night against Team Mississippi.

Player Notes

Sean Jenkins, RHP/1B, 2025

Frame has length with room for maturation ahead at 6-foot, 150-pounds. Loose arm with quickness for his age, high ¾ slot. Fastball sat at 82-84 mph. Has feel for his breaking ball at 73-74 mph. Threw some breaking balls with sharpness and late break. Held is velocity during his 3 innings of work in relief. Has mound presence and attacks hitters. 

Brandon Benkovics, RHP/3B, 2025

5-foot-9, 160-pound build. Worked only from the stretch using a short arm action, with a high ¾ slot with some deception to the delivery. Fastball ranged from 78-83 mph during his 2 innings of work. Worked mostly in the zone with his fastball. Showed feel for a changeup at 75 mph. Used a breaking ball at 66-67 mph. Flashed feel for his breaking ball landing it for strikes at times. Competed throughout his outing. 

Jay Secretarski, SS/RHP, 2025

6-foot, 160-pound build. Lined a ball to left for a base hit and shot a hard ground ball through the 4-hole for a base knock. Balanced in the box with a short barrel path to the ball. Aggressive on the basepaths with multiple stolen bases. Fluid actions on the infield. 

Colton Haire, SS/RHP, 2026

5-foot-10, 157-pound build. Stayed on a pitch away from him and drove it deep to right field for a double. Balanced, short swing. Hands have strength for his age with his barrel getting extension out front.
