2022 ACC Recruiting Classes

Nathan Rode and Shooter Hunt

Prep Baseball Report is conducting its annual review of recruiting classes, in which Nathan Rode and Shooter Hunt evaluate the current senior talent committed to programs in each of the Power Five conferences, as well as notable mid-majors—or as we like to call them, Power Majors—and the draft risk each of those classes carry. Numbers in the charts below denote where players are ranked in the 2022 Overall Rankings.

BOSTON COLLEGE

63 Adonys Guzman CT Brunswick School C
487 Ryan Dimaggio NJ The Hun School LHP

Boston CollegeOVERVIEW: Guzman has a rocket launcher for an arm and likes to use it. His energy and aggression behind the plate is infectious, leaving spectators hoping that a runner goes so they see a highlight reel worthy throw. The defense is his carrying tool, but he possesses some power at the plate and looks to do damage with each swing. Dimaggio is projectable and athletic at 6-foot-2, 190 pounds, and is a high-pitchability arm, throwing quality strikes with low effort and an easy, repeatable arm action. SS Owen DeShazo (Hanover HS, VA) comes from a winning program and has a long, projectable frame at 6-foot-6, 200 pounds. While he may move to a corner, his hands work well, he has easy arm strength and he should grow into more power as he physically matures. SS James Hackett (Glenbrook South HS, IL) had a strong spring, flashing some power with long, loose levers that create easy barrel whip.

DRAFT RISK: Medium. Guzman is arguably the Eagles’ best recruit in the last decade, but that obviously carries risk. His defensive ability was on full national display last summer and if scouts believe the hit tool will play, he’s as good as gone. Losing Guzman would be tough to swallow, but would still leave Boston College with a class it’s used to, with solid depth and players accustomed to competing in cold weather.
