2022 Power Major Recruiting Classes

Nathan Rode and Shooter Hunt

2022 Recruiting ClassesPrep Baseball Report is conducting its annual review of recruiting classes, in which Nathan Rode and Shooter Hunt evaluate the current senior talent committed to programs in each of the Power Five conferences, as well as notable mid-majors—or as we like to call them, Power Majors—and the draft risk each of those classes carry. Numbers in the charts below denote where players are ranked in the 2022 Overall Rankings.

CAMPBELL

99 Jackson Humphries NC Fuquay-Varina LHP
314 Jackson Roberts NC Northern Guilford RHP

CampbellOVERVIEW: The Fighting Camels have finished atop the Big South regular season standings every year since 2018, and have three straight NCAA Regional appearances, losing to eventual national champion Mississippi State last year. The depth of talent in North Carolina has served them well, but they will also venture into the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast for prep recruits, as evidenced by the 2022 group. Humphries has an athletic frame with present strength in his lower half. His quick arm produces a fastball that sits 89-91 and gets up to 94 with some arm-side run and sink. He spins a breaking ball well, with his slider showing late tilt at 78-80. Roberts gets down angle on his fastball, which is up to 90, and spins a swing-and-miss breaking ball in the 71-76 range. 1B/OF Josh Foulks (Northwest Guilford HS, NC) is raw, but has some loud tools with a 6.6 60 and 100 mph exit velo. He can also get up to the high 80s on the mound. C Jackson Rutecki (West Chester Henderson HS, PA) has a good swing that stays in the zone. He projects to hit for power and can stick behind the plate. RHP Drew Siegner (Southern Alamance HS, NC) pitches in the mid to upper 80s, has a good breaking ball and commands his stuff. 1B Partick Yost (Central Columbia HS, PA) has battled some injuries that has limited his action, but he’s another left-handed hitter with physicality and some athleticism.

DRAFT RISK: Medium. Campbell’s staff will sweat over Humphries, who is squarely on scouts’ radars, but he can factor into the weekend rotation early and eventually settle into the Friday night role if he makes it to Buies Creek.
