A Run to the Title: Fuquay-Varina's Route to the 4A State Championship

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

The Bengals of Fuquay-Varina completed a run to the state title on Saturday, taking games two and three of the 4A State Championship Series at Five County Stadium in Zebulon, NC.  The Bengals were tested throughout the year, in a very tough South SWAC 4A Conference, and in the state tournament, but answered every challenge.

At no point during 2018 did Fuquay receive a vote in the PBR/NCBCA Coaches Poll.  They finished 2nd in their conference with a 6-4 mark. As Fuquay entered the end of the year, they had figured out how to win games in multiple ways.  They could lean on their pitching and defense. They could score in bunches when they had to. In the State Championship series the toughness and resilience of the Bengals led to a State Title.
