Green Hope Slugs Its Way Past Jordan

Durham Jordan hosted No. 9 Green Hope on Tuesday evening, leading the Triangle 6 Conference by one game over the Falcons.  With a very limited schedule across the state due to all the rain, all eyes turned to Durham for the key matchup.

Green Hope jumped out quickly with 2 runs in the 1st and 1 run in the 2nd.  The two run first was keyed by a leadoff single from Jordyn Adams (OF, 2018) who stole 2nd and scored on a Kevin Pitarra single to left.  In the 2nd, Payton Green homered to lead off the inning, offsetting an RBI double by Ben Miller in the bottom of the 1st.

Jordan worked to score runs in each of their first 3 at-bats.  With the game tied entering the 4th, Green Hope strung two, two run innings, followed by single runs in the 6th and 7th.  An Adams 2 run Homer in the 4th give Green Hope a lead for good. Green Hope relief pitcher Angel Collazo fired two zeros in the 5th and 6th to create breathing room.  Collazo gave up 6 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings, but limited the damage to 3 runs. Entering in relief in the 3rd for Liam Norris (LHP, 2020) Collazo stabilized the game giving Green Hope’s offense a chance to create distance.

Jordan continued to fight, scoring two runs in the bottom of the 7th, cutting the lead to 9-6.  A walk followed by doubles from Connor Garcia and Tyler Wilson led to the RBI’s. Collazo induced a ground ball that he took care of himself to finish the game.
