+ RHP Zachary Wyatt (Thompson, 2023) has been a big reason the Warriors have gotten off to a perfect 13-0 start in Class 7A and continued to twirl quality outings in last night’s contest. A Montevallo signee, Wyatt was in control from the jump while mixing all four offerings in any count. The senior pounded the zone throughout his outing and kept hitters off-balanced while changing speeds effectively. Wyatt ran his fastball to both sides of the plate throughout while sitting mostly 85-87 mph (2300 rpm) and touched 88 mph early on, but both of his breaking balls continue to be his calling card using them to land in the zone for strikes, or to bury it low in the zone and get swings-and-misses with two strikes. His slider ranged 77-78 mph (2600 rpm) with late horizontal bite, while his breaking ball at 73-74 mph (2500 rpm) showed more vertical break and 11-5 shape. Both offerings collected a handful of swings-and-misses. The right-hander also flashed an 81 mph changeup early on that killed spin and showed slight fade for a quality fourth offering in his arsenal. He finished earning the W going 7 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 BB, and 11 K on 96 pitches, 73 of which were strikes.
