+ WEDNESDAY, APRIL 5TH

+ LHP Jack Smith (Hartselle, 2023) continues to turn in dominant performances as he got the complete game 7-2 win on Wednesday in Game 2 of the Tigers area series versus Decatur. The Arkansas signee and recent Super 60 participant, relied heavily on the fastball throughout his start but was able to mix in some quality breaking balls when he needed against some hitters at the top of the opposing order. Working from more of an over-the-top slot, the southpaw was able to move the fastball around to all quadrants of the zone while also creating a tough angle. Smith showed confidence elevating the fastball when was able to get into solid pitching counts as hitters chased the pitch in their eyes. He opened up at 88-91 mph and bumped 92 mph twice in the second inning. Into the later innings, he was more 86-88 mph as he wrapped up the outing in 102 pitches. While not needing it much, he did flash a quality breaking ball showing big 1-7 shape at 70-72 mph that he continued to locate down in the zone which created several swings-and-misses. Smith did find himself in a bit of trouble in the fifth inning due to a couple of walks and an error (allowing two unearned runs), but after a quick mound visit he went back to the overpowering fastball for a strikeout to end the threat.
