Alex Armand Named New Louisiana Scouting Director

PBR Staff

Prep Baseball Report is proud to welcome Alex Armand as our new Louisiana Scouting Director. A native of Louisiana and a decorated champion at Barbe High School, Armand’s baseball roots run thick and deep across the state.

Armand replaces Walt Jones, who has moved on to coach at Eastern Kentucky University. While Jones will be missed, the state of Louisiana is in excellent hands with Armand. Born and raised in Lake Charles, Armand played four years under legendary high school coach and mentor Glenn Cecchini at Barbe High School, where he helped lead the Buccaneers to the 2006 Louisiana Class 5A State Championship.

Armand went on to play collegiately at McNeese State University, before going back to Barbe High School, in which he served under Cecchini as an assistant coach from 2009-2012 - his first of two assistant coaching stints under Cecchini. Armand later came back to his alma mater from 2017-2020.

Armand is one of two people in the state to have won a Louisiana baseball championship both as a player (2006) and as a coach (2012 and 2019). National powerhouse Barbe has a long history of churning out draft picks, including first-rounder Gavin Cecchini (2012) and third-rounder Garin Cecchini (2010), to name a few.

“I am extremely blessed, honored, and excited to be named the Louisiana Scouting Director for Prep Baseball Report in Louisiana,” Armand said. “ Helping student-athletes achieve their goal of playing baseball at the next level has always been a true passion of mine; as well as being a resource for them and their parents to lean on for advice.

“Louisiana has always been home and I am thrilled to have the opportunity to help players across our great state realize their full potential.  Prep Baseball Report has always been on the cutting-edge and ahead of the game.  Combining first-class baseball people with the latest in technology is going to be a tremendous benefit to the baseball community in Louisiana.”

Armand is well-acquainted with the Prep Baseball Report, as he served as Jones’ right-hand man, and has coached Team Louisiana at the Future Games last August. He also served as an associate scout for the Toronto Blue Jays and has been involved in high-level travel baseball.

“Alex is extremely plugged into the fabric of Louisiana baseball and has such a passion for his home state, which will resonate to all the players, coaches and families,” said Prep Baseball Report President Sean Duncan. “Aside from his background and history in the state, Alex is such a likable, good person, and am pumped to officially have him on our team.”

Now Armand will bring his baseball experiences, connections and passions for scouting to Louisiana’s prep baseball scene. He will work tirelessly to bring to you the most comprehensive high school baseball information Louisiana has ever seen, and provide scouting coverage to all corners of the state. But he can’t do it alone. Please email him at [email protected] with college commitments, relevant news, and top players in your area.

Thank you for your continued support.
