PBR Future Games: All-Future Games Team

Shooter Hunt
Vice President, Scouting

Now that the dust has settled on the 2021 PBR Future Games, we're set to reflect at some of the week's standout performers. Competing against the best uncommitted underclassmen in the country, and in front of more than 300 college coaches, each of these players produced with in-game results en route to being named to the inaugural All-Future Games Team. With the help of our PBR scouting directors from across the country, we developed this list of 29 players who starred during gameplay at last week's prestigious event.

PITCHERS

Aiden Sims RHP / Forney, TX / 2024

Final line: 2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB; 5 K

PBR Texas Scouting Director, Phil Haig: "The baby-faced right-hander set the tone on the mound with command of four pitches in the zone, great tempo, and the ability to spin two different breaking balls. Sims has an athletic, repeatable delivery with some natural deception from the front side allowing him to pound the zone. The fastball worked at 84-87 mph with 2,500-plus rpm, and it played both up and down in the zone, with great ownership of the fastball to the glove-side. Sims also showed the ability to throw two different breaking balls, one more of a true curveball at 70-72 mph, the other has more of a slurve/power curveball shape, 75-76. Both breaking balls were thrown for strikes in the zone, and each earned swings and misses on the two-strike breaker that bounced. Sims also flashed a couple quality changeups with arm speed to left-handed hitters. He had quite the day for himself and proved he will be a 2024 arm to pay attention to."

Cole Gibler LHP / Blue Springs, MO / 2024

Gibler emerged early in the summer as one of the top '24s in the state of Missouri, and we saw it for ourselves at the NPI, where he turned heads. At the PBR Future Games, Gibler pitched three innings against one of the top offenses at the event, and he allowed just one hit and K'd four total, while showing command of an elite fastball that sat 84-86 mph.

Bryce Dean RHP / MIF / Santiago, CA / 2023

Final line: 3 IP, 0 R; 7 K

PBR California Scouting Director, Les Lukach: "Dean got attention thanks to ProPlayAI, the newest tech piece added to the Prep Baseball Report tech repertoire. ProPlayAI showed Dean's peak arm speed of 22 m/s, which is comparable to top 2021 MLB Draft arms. His fastball sat comfortably at 86-89 mph to both sides of the plate and showed ability to elevate late in the count. Flashed a slider with solid spin and swing-and-miss potential in the 73-76 mph range. At 6-foot-2 170 pounds, Dean has room for more and with a fastball surely to be in the low-90s sooner than later."

Buddy Brands RHP / Tigard, OR / 2023

Final line: 3 IP, 0 ER, 1 H, 0 BB; 4 K

From Day 1 Breakdown (7/30/21): "It was a hot one with plenty of humidity, but Brands (Tigard HS, OR) showed no ill effects in his two-inning outing for the Pacific Northwest squad. Brands is one of my favorite uncommitted arms in the class on account of his impressively athletic and efficient delivery and quick arm. A TrackMan data darling throughout the preseason, the 6-foot-3, 200-pounder pumped fastballs at an effortless 86-88 mph, commanding it to both sides of the plate. He paired his heater with a 79-80 mph cutter and low-70s slurve. The fastball shows some ride/run through the zone, and there is a strong chance he continues to make jumps in the future. Brands finished his two-inning stint with four strikeouts."

Camron Poe LHP / Christian Brothers College, MO / 2023

Poe countered some of the errors made behind him by trudging through the heat and defensive miscues to strike out five batters in his pair of innings pitched at the PBR Future Games. His competitiveness earned him additional praise as his stuff also managed to steal himself more attention. Last week, Poe sat 87-90 mph from the left side paired with a sharp, biting slider that gives him electric upside as one of the country's top uncommitted left-handed pitchers.

Will Shelor RHP / OF / Hamilton, AZ / 2023

Shelor struck out six batters in his two innings, armed with a lively fastball that he primarily leaned on to to power it past opposing bats.

PBR Arizona Scouting Director, Brett Thorney: "Entered the game in the 3rd inning. Immediately caught attention with his electric arm. Walked his first two batters, but was unfazed as he proceeded to strike out the next three batters. Primarily relied on his fastball (91.2 mph max) to power by some batters, changing elevation effectively. He showed off a solid slider that he commands well enough, and a splitter as well. Generates his velocity sinking into his back leg as he drives down the mound. In his second inning of work, Shelor also racked up another three strikeouts, gave up one double, but stranded him at second. Very solid showing for Shelor, displaying his velocity and change of pace pitches that could lead to success for him at the next level."

Luke Brown RHP / Middle Creek, NC / 2023

Final line: 2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 1 BB; 3 K

PBR North Carolina Scouting Director, Matt Payne: "Tall and lanky, standing 6-foot-7, Brown took control of the spotlight with a clean two innings, punching 3. The fastball created discomfort, gathering swing and miss in the zone and when elevated, ranging 85-87 mph (87.7 max), spinning in the 2,400 rpm range. A solid three-pitch mix, Brown flooded the zone. The changeup was effective with solid hand speed at 78-79 mph, attacking the down zone. Slider progressed through the outing with some length later in the outing at 76-78 mph."

Zach Stevens RHP / Stanhope Elmore, AL / 2023

Final line: 2 IP, 0 R, 0 H, 0 BB; 4 K

PBR Alabama Scouting Director, Austin Sharp: "... has the led the pitching staff for Team Alabama with a dominating performance in two innings against Team Kentucky. During his outing, the 5-11, 180-pounder saw his fastball reached 90.5 mph, while sitting mostly in the upper-80s throughout. What caught the attention of most, however, was his elite ability to spin and land a low-70s breaking ball for strikes, giving way to some uncomfortable takes and at-bats. Stevens showed the ability to tunnel that pitch off his fastball well, and had high spin metrics up to 2,700 rpm. A big statement from the rising junior and has seen his stock increase from his outing."

Luke Roccesano RHP / Christian Brothers Academy, NJ / 2023

Roccesano struck out eight batters in his three innings of work at the PBR Future Games, coming away from the week as one of biggest arrow-up players in attendance. The wiry 6-foot-3, 190-pound righty reached a 90 mph high in Georgia, looking more and more like another high-follow arm to note from the state of New Jersey.

Gavin Moczydlowsky RHP / New Boston Huron, MI / 2023

Moczydlowsky pitched a pair of effective innings at LakePoint while representing Team Michigan, and he settled into his second inning of work by punching out the side against Team Ohio.

PBR Michigan Scouting Director, Aaron Wilson: "Strong lower half RHP works right at hitters throwing a power fastball from a high 3/4 arm angle. Back door curve ball to a righty picked up his first K. Attacks hitters with his fastball. Picture perfect first inning, starting the second inning with a backwards strikeout and striking out the next 2 hitters running his fastball up to 90 mph."

SHORTSTOPS

Liam Willson SS / 3B / Herndon, VA / 2023

Willson was excellent all week in Georgia while representing Team Mid-Atlantic. At LakePoint during gameplay, Willson went a combined 5-for-8 with a home run and two RBIs, and he recorded multiple hits from both batter's boxes, and notched at least one hit in each of his team's three games.

Jackson Forbes SS / RHP / Mountain Ridge, AZ / 2024

Forbes, a left-handed hitter, recorded a hit in each of Team Arizona's three games and recorded five hits in six at-bats including a homer, double, and two RBIs. Additionally, he pitched two scoreless innings and ran his fastball up to 87 mph.

PBR Arizona Scouting Director, Brett Thorney: "... Forbes also continued hitting well [in Game 3], ending 5-for-6 on the weekend, and 2-for-3 in this game, headlined by a shot over the right field fence, which ended up being the difference in the game."

Ryan Weingartner SS / RHP / St. Augustine Prep, NJ / 2023

Weingartner was responsible for some of Team New Jersey's best at-bats of the week. The lean 5-foot-11 athlete collected four hits total, with a double and two RBIs, while reaching an 88 mph high from the rubber. He stole some attention during the workout day as well, where he ran a 6.53 and recorded a max exit speed of 94.6 mph from the right-handed batter's box during BP.

Peyton Watts SS / 2B / Oxford, AL / 2023

Watts was a combined 4-for-6 while repping Team Alabama over in Georgia, that includes a pair of doubles, three RBIs, a stolen base, and he earned three walks.

PBR Alabama Scouting Director, Austin Sharp: "... really found his groove at the plate midway through this event, and picked up a big hit in each of the final two games. Still a fairly slender 6-0, 160-pounds with plenty of room for strength to be added to the frame. Wiry athleticism with a smooth stroke from the left side showing the ability to spray to all fields during BP & in gameplay. Smoked a double down the LF line in his first at-bat of the game to score a run, and used 7.07-speed to make it to 2nd with relative ease. Fairly sizable upside for Watts, but still getting it done in the 'now.'"

CORNER INFIELDERS

J.M. Long 3B / Pleasant Grove, TX / 2023

The physical Pleasant Grove third baseman tallied four hits at the PBR Future Games, including a homer and a double, good for four RBIs and two runs scored.

PBR Texas Scouting Director, Phil Haig: "Long’s bat once again came to play, highlighted by a two-run home run to right-center field. With such a simple setup and compact powerful swing, Long has the ability to change games in the box with each swing he takes. He also once again made every play over at third base with relative ease, proving he has a shot to stay at the hot corner with his soft hands and big bat."

Alex Marot 3B / Winchendon School, MA / 2023

Marot recorded five hits for Team Massachusetts down at LakePoint, while showing some toughness playing through an injury to his lower half. Even still, Marot's five base hits helped him generate three RBIs for his squad.

PBR New England Co-Director of Scouting, Dennis Healy: "Went 5-for-8 on the week as he was an offensive force. The pitches found his barrel more often than not. He projects to be a middle of the order hitter at a major college."

Reid Snider 3B / 1B / St. Louis Catholic, LA / 2023

Snider's a physical 6-foot-3, 195-pound right-handed hitter with big bat strength, and he put it to use while repping Team Louisiana last week. There, Snider recorded four hits, including a homer, two doubles, and four RBIs – and his home run against Texas was measured at 101 mph off the bat, and it came in his first at-bat of the weekend.

PBR Louisiana Scouting Director, Alex Armand: "There have been a lot of Louisiana guys who have been on time so far and Snider is one you can put at the top of the list. He collected a double against Missouri in Game 1 and went 2-for-2 with another double on Friday against Missouri. The physical corner infielder from St. Louis HS has certainly caught the attention of several schools after three days."

OUTFIELDERS

Easton Breyfogle OF / SS / Edina, MN / 2023

Team MN-IA-NE was one of the pound-for-pound winners of the PBR Future Games, and Breyfogle was at the center of the production, alongside the event's MVP Cam Kozeal. Breyfogle earned a spot here by going 5-for-9 with a double, triple, walk, and he drove in seven runs for his squad throughout the week, and he recorded at least one hit in each of the team's three games.

Ryker Schow OF / Pleasant Grove, UT / 2023

Team Utah was another one of the event's winners, as they continually caused coaches around the facility flock to their field of play. Schow was the team's offensive generator, as he tallied five hits that included two doubles, and he also showed as a true center field prospect defensively, ensnaring a clutch sliding grab in right-center.

From Day 1 Breakdown (7/30/21): "Led by four hits from [Schow], Team Utah exploded for double-digit runs in its first game action. Schow, a 6-foot, 165-pound right-handed hitter, looked the part in center field and at the plate, where he was joined by a top-to-bottom lineup that took advantage in key situations."

Rhyder Poppell OF / Florida State University School, FL / 2023

Poppell stood out athletically during the workout day and again inside the Loden Sports Testing evaluation, and it translated in-game where he went 4-for-6 with three doubles, three RBIs, three runs scored and he snagged a couple of steals, too.

From Day 1 Breakdown (7/30/21): "... posted a 6.68 60-yard dash time and took a strong BP in workouts, producing a 94-mph exit velocity while doing damage with each swing from BOTH sides of the plate. There is uphill intent through the zone and he remains compact through impact, with the ability to turn the barrel and show present pull-side power. Poppell’s 2-for-2 day featured two doubles and three RBI. Team Florida has a fun team to watch with a little bit of everything for coaches to recruit: athletes, multiple future power-bats, and up-the-middle defenders who can stick at premium positions."

Ty Silva OF / Shadow Ridge, NV / 2023

Silva stuffed the stat sheet for Team Nevada by tallying four hits, including a triple, two doubles, that produced four RBIs. Silva also managed to steal three bases, rounding out an enticing profile. During his team's workout last week, Silva also averaged an exit speed of 85.9 mph, with a 99.7 max, showcasing a coveted power/speed combination worth monitoring.

Owen Coil OF / INF / Stillwater, OK / 2024

Coil is a versatile and reliable defender who showed well for Team Oklahoma all over the diamond. Offensively, the Stillwater product collected four hits and three doubles, in addition to a handful of stolen bases which helped energize his team at the plate. He showed upside speed and instincts in-game, too, after he scored from second on a routine groundball.

Drew Markle SS / OF / Obra D. Tompkins, TX / 2023

Markle consistently stirred the attention of onlookers throughout the week, and he shined in-game with four hits throughout the week, that led to four runs scored, three RBIs, aided by two triples.

PBR Texas Scouting Director, Phil Haig: "Markle continues to steal the show in the box, coming up with a triple to right-center field to tie the game and eventually score and a groundball to second base with the infield in and had no hesitation in his read forcing a poor throw. Markle is blossoming into a star in the making."

CATCHERS

Cade Carr C / SS / Hoover, AL / 2023

Carr was named the game's MVP in their contest between Team Mississippi after a 3-for-3 performance. He totaled four hits on the weekend with a pair of doubles, two RBIs, two walks, and a couple of steals.

PBR Alabama Scouting Director, Austin Sharp"... showed up at the PBR Future Games and elevated his status as a prospect even more with the performance he turned in. Medium 5-11, 165-pound frame with good athletic ability, ran a 6.90 60 YD at the workout and hit well against all arms during gameplay. Capped off an excellent event going 3-for-3 at the plate with a double and an RBI in a Game 3 win over Mississippi where he was named the MVP. Can play numerous positions on the infield and impressed behind the plate, as well. May not have the biggest stature out of some, but Cade Carr gets it done time-after-time again will help a college program win a lot of games at the next level. Winner mentality."

Luke Klooster C / RHP / O Dea , WA / 2024

Klooster collected four hits in Team Pacific Northwest's three games, and that includes his two-run homer against Nevada. The incoming sophomore is one of Washington's top athletes, and it was here at the PBR Future Games that Klooster demonstrated a big step forward offensively, against premium competition.

TWO-WAY

Christian Rodriguez RHP / OF / Stoneman Douglas, FL / 2023

Rodriguez is one of the top uncommitted players in the country, and he showed why last week, and especially from the mound. There, the Stoneman Douglas HS product reached a 93 mph high and he struck out five batters in three innings, allowing just one run and one hit. Offensively in the week, he tallied a pair of hits, including a double, and he walked once and drove in a run.

Jack Mackinnon OF / LHP / Cardinal Mooney, FL / 2023

MacKinnon is on the rise following a sound two-way performance at the PBR Future Games, while he represented Team Florida. Positionally, the left/left athlete went 4-for-5 at the plate from the left side, driving in one run and stealing a base. He also hopped up on the mound where he reached an 86 mph high and struck out a batter in one scoreless inning of work.

MJ Sweeney 1B / RHP / St. Augustine, CA / 2023

Sweeney made the most of his trip to LakePoint, showcasing as a two-way follow repping Cali. The 6-foot-7, 245-pound righty struck out the side in his lone inning of work, and he also recorded four hits on the weekend.

PBR California Scouting Director, Les Lukach: "The big right-hander finished the game on the mound twirling a 1-2-3 inning; K, 4-3, 6-3 on nine pitches. Sweeney looked comfortable on the mound, worked quickly and even mixed in a double-clutch leg lift to offset hitters timing. The fastball had some life to it at 83-86 mph and worked to both sides of the plate. Flashed a changeup with good speed and spin differential at 72 mph. The frame and mechanics show clear signs of future velocity gains, making Sweeney a real two-way threat."

Rustan Rigdon SS / RHP / Metter, GA / 2024

Rigdon was responsible for one of the weekend's best statistical performances during gameplay, after notching five hits in six at-bats, earning two walks, swiping six bags, while scoring four times. At one point, he reached base safely in seven straight plate appearances, and his only out came in his first at-bat of the week. He took the mound and struck out five batters in two innings of work, too, and allowed just one hit, no walks.

From Day 1 Breakdown (7/30/21): "Georgia’s prospect-laden roster looked more than comfortable at the friendly confines of LakePoint as the team made a LOUD statement with a monster victory in Game 1. Seemingly, the entire lineup hammered baseballs, with [Rigdon] setting the tone. The wiry 5-foot-10, 150-pound switch-hitter was a favorite during the workout day and continued to shine in the first game. Unassuming in size but unafraid, Rigdon gets off quality swings with a smooth stroke from both sides of the plate and is quickly becoming a must-watch player."
