Alvin vs. Clear Creek

Tyler King
PBR Texas Intern

LEAGUE CITY, TX - Clear Creek hosted Alvin on Tuesday night in a District 24-6A matchup at Mallory Field.

Alvin starter 2020 LHP Carson Keithley (No. 42 in 2020 PBR Texas rankings and No. 303 in 2020 PBR overall rankings) was dominant throughout his outing. He didn’t allow his first hit until the 5th inning on a single from 2020 catcher Andrew Cardi. He mixed a nice fastball with a big curveball to get a lot of awkward swings. Keithley finished the night going six innings allowing three runs on three hits and three walks with ten strikeouts. 2019 OF/RHP Levi Whitlock closed out the game with a clean 7th inning for the save.

Offensively for Alvin, they were led by 2020 2B Austin Hinson, who was 3-4 with an RBI and 2019 3B Colin Jeter, who went 1-3 with an RBI.

Clear Creek got a solid start from 2019 RHP Tyler Ewald. Ewald went six innings allowing four runs, one earned, on seven hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Mixed a curveball with a low-80’s fastball and kept hitters off balance.

Clear Creek was led offensively by 2019 OF Mason Moran who had a three-run home run and 2021 OF Lane Brewster who was 2-4.

SCOUT NOTES

Carson Keithley, LHP, Alvin, 2020
Uncommitted. Estimated 5-foot-11, 170-pound athletic frame. The left-hander throws from a high ¾ slot with a loose arm swing. He’s a good athlete on the mound and repeats his delivery very well. His fastball was 83-85 mph and was 81-83 mph late in his outing. Threw the fastball with the command to all four quadrants of the zone, flashing arm-side run. Also threw a big curveball at 67-71 mph, touching 74 mph with 11-5 action. Has a great feel for the pitch and landed it for a lot of called strikes on both sides of the plate and was able to get plenty of swings and miss with it.
