Area Code Underclass: Reds

Shooter Hunt
Vice President, Scouting

With many of the country’s top future draft prospects in the 2024 & 2025 classes present in San Diego for the Underclass Area Code Games, PBR Vice President of Scouting, Shooter Hunt, was glued to the action with a front row seat. In total, seven teams competed with players from all around the country representing their region. The action was fast and furious with a full round of batting practice kicking things off before each team played four games in three days. The intense look provided even greater clarity as to who the next big MLB Draft prospects will be in coming years.

Ty Southisene SS / RHP / Basic , NV / 2024

The Tennessee recruit might be the most “must-watch” talent in the class, and is impossible not to like thanks to his fun athleticism and production. Just 5-foot-9, 150-pounds with a thin, wiry frame, the true shortstop delivers firm barrels from the right side that make him play much bigger at the plate. A coolness pervades his presence on both sides of the ball, and he has a flair for making big plays in big spots. Utilizing a larger leg kick to separate the hands further back, the bat speed stands out almost as much as the bat-to-ball capabilities, which are highly advanced. While other talented hitters appeared to get caught up in the big stuff that was coming from the mound, Southisene was never fazed, and took quality swings that were rewarded in all counts. Also an elite defender, there is nobody that you want the ball hit to more than the Nevada native.
