KINGWOOD, TX—The Humble ISD tournament featured a major showdown between two big arms—one a known commodity and the other very new to the national scene. With powerhouse programs facing off in Flower Mound and The Woodlands, we were treated to matchup between RHPs Cam Brown and Josh Ekness.

Brown, a Texas Christian recruit, struck out the first six he faced and didn’t allow a hit until the fourth. His fastball ranged from 93-96 mph in the first inning and settled in at 91-94 after that. His slider was inconsistent, but he did show several that were above average to plus pitches with sharp bite and tilt at 75-79. He also mixed in a few low-80s changeups, a potential average or better offering. Brown threw a ton of strikes (70 percent) and showed the ability to hit the corners with both his fastball and slider. In seven innings, he struck out 13 and allowed just two hits.
