College Crosscheck: Week Eight

After a week in the Sunshine State during Week Seven of the D1 baseball season, College Crosscheck took me closer to home for Week Eight. A mid-week match-up between Illinois and Coastal Carolina and a Friday night ACC contest in South Bend to watch the Cavaliers battle the Irish were the highlights. As for tools and talent, here’s what I saw…

No. 80 Tanner Morris, SS, Virginia- Sure-handed middle infielder who also sets the tone at the top of the lineup for the Cavaliers. Morris is a disciplined hitter with a very good knowledge of the strike zone and excellent hand/eye. Currently, he has more career walks (52) than strikeouts (48) and less than a 13% strikeout rate this season with a 41% extra base hit percentage…a very rare and valuable combination.
