Prep Baseball Report

Commitment Trends II

Brandon Hall
North Carolina Director of Scouting

At the end of August, we took a look at the 2018, 2019, and 2020 classes and their commitments, as compared to the class of 2017.  We saw several trends in each class, in several different regions.  With the early signing period upon us, we will take our second look at the commitment trends across the country.

In 2017, over 5,000 players were tracked in PBR regions having committed to play baseball at the next level.  While this case study does not hit many of the requirements for an official scientific study, we are able to see how the upcoming high school graduating classes are trending when compared to the 2017 class.  As Prep Baseball Report has continued to expand, we are tracking more areas and more players in 2018, than ever before.  For the purpose of this case study, we have continued to just track states with stats from the 2017 graduating class.

The August stats and story can be seen HERE.  In August a total of 1,600 player had committed from the 2018 class, which represented 32% of total commitments when compared to the 2017 class.  As we move into mid-November the total number of commitments in the 2018 class has climbed to over 3,000 players, representing 59% of the total number of players to commit in 2017.  You can see the total breakdown, across various states and classes in the slide below.
