The Clayton Comets squared off against the Corinth Holders Pirates in the first game of the Backyard Battle as Corinth made the short ride to Clayton on Tuesday night. The wind and the cold kept both team's bats on ice as runs and hits were few and far between. Clayton took advantage of walks and a big swing by Sr Bennette Rich to plate 3 of their 4 runs, while Corinth replied on an Rbi single by Soph Reese File to plate the Pirates only run. Sophomore Karter Bossman kept the Pirates in check allowing 1 run over 7 innings giving up 4 walks while striking out 4 in a complete game effort.

For game 2 of the Backyard Battle we took the ride to Corinth Holders to visit The Boneyard. Corinth's bats were ready and up for the challenge, plating 8 runs in the first 3 innings. Corinth Sophomore Jimmy Alfonsin got the Pirates rolling with a leadoff bomb to start the second inning. One batter later Graham Wike launched a homer over the left field fence to give Corinth 6-0 lead after 2 innings. The Comets came clawing back to keep the game close, when a catcher interference call negated a 3rd out ground ball to load the bases and Bennett Rich took advantage as he sent a Grand Slam deep into the night over the center field fence to pull the Comets within 1. Corinth added 4 more to defeat the Comets 12-7. Clayton moves to 4-3 and takes on Cleveland on Tuesday 3/21. Corinth pulls to 4-4 and welcomes SE Raleigh on Monday 3/20.
