SCHEDULE

TEAM PREVIEWS

ALLEN COUNTY

2021-2022 Record: 26-26
Head Coach: Clint Stoy
Schedule: Kirkwood at 10:00 a.m. & Northeast CC at 12:30 p.m.

It’s a relatively new roster for the Red Devils this season, with a large chunk of last year’s team moving on in their collegiate careers. They only bring back a handful of players who saw action last year and they’re one of the youngest rosters we’ll see at Creekside this weekend.

PLAYERS TO NOTE

Position Players

+ Shaun Gomez: .314/.387/.529, 2 HR, 12 2B, 27 RBI

Pitchers:

+ Brett Buchanan: 41 ⅓ IP, 43 K

BARTON CC

2021-2022 Record: 41-18
Head Coach: Brent Biggs
Schedule: Southeastern CC at 10:00 a.m. & DMACC at 3:00 p.m.

Yet another successful season for the Cougars took place last year, where they won 41 games and made it to the Plains District Tournament. Entering this weekend, however, Barton’s roster has some turnover from last year’s squad, and it’s a young group that’s relatively inexperienced and loses a handful of key contributors from last year - most notably Alex Rogers and Zach Thornton. Still, this is a team that’s churned out 30+ win seasons on the regular over the last several years and they’re going to be amongst the top teams to watch this weekend at Creekside:

PLAYERS TO NOTE

Position Players:

+ Ricardo Sanchez: .442/.551/.79, 9 HR, 90 RBIs, 35 2B, 27 SB

+ Henry Hayman: .384/.427/.713, 9 HR, 63 RBI, 19 2B

+ Dryden House: .329/.477/.513, 3 HR, 43 RBI, 15 2B, 37 BB

+ Chandler Miller: .333/.443/.588, 51 ABs

Pitchers:

+ Bryan Bartels: 23 ⅓ IP, 3.47 ERA, 20 K

+ Owen Reynolds: 58 ⅓ IP, 65 K

+ David Stuart: 41 ⅔ IP

CLOUD COUNTY

2021-2022 Record: 42-18
Head Coach: Eric Gilliland
Schedule: NEO at 10:00 a.m. & Northern Oklahoma Enid at 3:00 p.m.

The turnaround that head coach Eric Gilliland has had on this Cloud County program since his arrival in 2016 is something to note. He took over the program after a 9-44 season six years ago and helped lead the T-Birds to a 42-win campaign last season, ending deep into the Plains District Tournament.

They enter this season with a relatively young roster and several players without much returning experience under their belt, meaning this weekend will certainly be a test against two quality opponents.

PLAYERS TO NOTE

Position Players:

+ Kolden Howerton: .338/.468/.599, 5 HR, 50 RBI, 16 2B, 5 3B

+ Danny Infante: .340/.412/.639, 7 HR, 25 RBI, 97 AB

+ Karson Green: .316/.458/.684, 3 HR, 14 RBI, 38 AB

+ Aidan Malish: #21 ranked prospect in British Columbia 2022 class

+ Alex Diaz

Pitchers:

+ Cole Askew: 21 IP, 3.86 ERA, 27 K

+ Brady Stuewe: 22.2 IP, 30 K

+ Brayden Mackey: Transfer

+ Cayden Castellanos: New Mexico transfer

+ Ethan Price: #33 ranked prospect in Ontario 2022 class

+ Mason Munz

CROWDER COLLEGE

2021-2022 Record: 54-13
Head Coach: Travis Lallemand
Schedule: Iowa Central at 10:00 a.m. & Southeastern CC at 12:30 p.m.

Winning has become the standard at Crowder - they’ve won 104 games over the last two seasons and appeared in the NJCAA Division I World Series back to back years. Last year’s group obviously featured explosive talent, highlighted by second-round draft pick Jacob Misiorowski, but the Roughriders have an abundance of young talent capable of replicating the success this team has had in prior years.

PLAYERS TO NOTE

Position Players:

+ Houston King: .339/.430/.513, 4 HR, 52 RBI, 16 2B, 16 SB

DMACC

2021-2022 Record: 36-22
Head Coach: Nic Mishler
Schedule: Kansas City Kansas CC at 12:30 p.m. & Kirkwood CC at 3:00 p.m.

DMACC finished 14 games above the .500 mark last season and surpassed the 35+ win mark, rattling off a few wins at the Region XI tournament before dropping their final two contests of the year. They return a handful of top offensive performers from their 2022 squad, but graduate numerous arms that shouldered bulky workloads on the hill last year.

PLAYERS TO NOTE

Position Players:

+ Reid Stallman: .418/.505/.633, 5 HR, 40 RBI, 17 2B

+ Brodie Kresser: .337/.451/.529, 7 HR, 46 RBI, 15 2B

EASTERN OKLAHOMA CC

2021-2022 Record: 51-5
Head Coach: Brock Moss
Schedule: Hutchinson at 12:30 p.m. & Iowa Central at 3:00 p.m.

Another powerhouse program traveling to Creekside this weekend, Eastern Oklahoma rattled off a 51-win season, building off the 47 games they won the year prior. They’re once again loaded with talent, and even with a handful of key prospects from last year’s team gone, head coach Brock Moss’ squad will look to make even more noise in his first year at the helm.

PLAYERS TO NOTE

Position Players:

+ Drake Kerr: .352/.437/.541, 2 HR, 21 2B, 44 RBI

+ Tate Wilkins: .306/.444/.361, 36 AB

HUTCH

2021-2022 Record: 38-23
Head Coach: Ryan Schmidt
Schedule: Eastern Oklahoma CC at 12:30 p.m. & Northeastern Oklahoma at 3:00 p.m.

The Blue Dragons nearly eclipsed the 40 win marker last year, and they finished eight games above .500 in the conference play. They’re bringing back a few impactful names offensively that’ll be lineup staples, and their experience on the mound should allow this pitching staff to build off last season, allowing Hutch to make a run at the coveted Jayhawk Conference crown.

IOWA CENTRAL

2021-2022 Record: 38-20
Head Coach: Eric Stein
Schedule: Crowder College at 10:00 a.m. & Eastern Oklahoma CC at 3:00 p.m.

One of the top JUCO baseball programs in Iowa, the Tritons won 38 games last season before dropping their only two games of the Region XI tournament to end their year. They’re returning a few key pieces on both sides of the ball, and they’re bringing in some potency via the transfer market and high school ranks. The Tritons are certainly going to be tested this week, drawing Crowder and Eastern Oklahoma, two teams that won 50+ games last season.

2021-2022 Record: 33-24
Head Coach: Zac Bone
Schedule: Seminole State at 12:30 p.m. & Johnson County at 3:00 p.m.

JeffCo has established themselves as a force to be reckoned with in Region 16, making their way to the tournament championship last season. They’re off to a hot start this fall after impressive back-to-back showings at the Puma Classic, and we’re eager to see them up-close yet again at Creekside this weekend. The Cavaliers are littered with talent from top to bottom and they’ve heavily attacked the transfer portal, picking up a few players from Power Five programs in the process.
