Diamondskills All American Camp: Infield Analysis

The Diamondskills All American Camp was held over three weekends in the month of January. Georgetown Preparatory School was the host is their large indoor facility on campus. Well over 100 players were in attendance to perform in front of the PBR Scouting Staff as well as colleges from across the region.

We continue our player evaluation breakdowns from the event. We have already done catchers and outfielders, now next stop is the infield position with over 40 players involved. We will break down the top performers from the event by class, followed by the complete evaluations from every infielder that performed at the event.

We will breakdown our evaluations by position throughout the week and finish up with our top overall performers on Monday.

2019

Gian Carlos Rubiano, 3B/RHP, Ardrey Kell (NC) 2019
Solid frame at 5-foot-9, 155-pounds. Ran a 60 time of 7.28. Athletic stance that starts slightly open with a small leg lift striding in line. Hands are relaxed with minimal movement on load, bat wraps, flat path to the ball, and showed ability to handle pitches up in the zone. Exit velocity was 73 mph. Had some presence in the infield. Moved fluid on approach and showed rhythm and feel post catch. Soft hands and clean exchange to a short low three-quarter arm slot throwing across at 73 mph. On the mound starts upright with hands set low and moves to a high leg kick and solid balance point. Moves down the mound with a drop and drive approach landing in line at foot strike. Arm action is long and throws from a high three-quarter release point.

2020

Brian Sanders, SS/RHP, Westfield (VA) 2020
6-foot-1, 175-pound strong frame. Slightly crouched athletic stance with hands set high and bat wrapped. Uses small stride forward to gain ground on the pitch and lands on line with hands back. Stays behind contact and uses lower half with some violence to finish balanced. Bat has an uphill path and displayed the ability to hit for power from gap to gap. Exit velocity was 80 mph. Feet were active on the defensive side. Clean glove presentation to catch and gathered at center. Exchange was slow with a bit of a windup. Arm action was long, but showed arm speed and strength on a 80 mph throw across from a low three-quarter arm slot. Posted a 60 time of 7.28.

Colin Troilo, 3B/1B, Heritage (Leesburg, VA) 2020
5-foot-11, 170-pound athletic frame. Stance displays some athleticism and flow to it. Small leg lift to stride and lands on line. Hands load smooth and get to a strong hitting position, bat path was slightly uphill and should produce some solid power with an exit velo of 91 mph. Lower half was explosive on finish and bat stayed through extension. Works well laterally and gets outside the ball to catch with a clean exchange. Uses a rhythm glove pat on exchange and throws from a high three-quarter arm slot at 79 mph. Ran his 60 in 7.41.

Thomas Kresina, 1B, St. John's College Prep (DC) 2020
Strong 6-foot, 190-pound frame. Showed some athleticism with a 7.02 60. Upright hands back setup. Small hand load with a double tap for timing to stride in line. Hands were short with uphill tilt through the zone to extension. Fast bat and hand speed through the zone with barrel strength and a swing that will produce some power. Active feet around the bag showing presence for the position. Fields out front with a longer arm action and a high three-quarter arm slot. Intriguing prospect at 1B showing the combination of strength and athleticism, to go along with a powerful swing from the left side, necessary to produce at the next level.

Zach Senders, SS, Bullis (MD) 2020
5-foot-10, 170-pound solid athletic frame. Showed off some quickness with a 60 time of 6.69. Athletic open stance with hands relaxed. Hands load low and weight moves down into back leg with a small knee to knee lift to striding closed. Bat is quick through the zone with some hand speed. Path is flat with line drive tendencies. Posted an exit velocity of 78 mph. Showed well defensively. Active feet, worked through the catch, clean soft hands, and quick clean exchange. Displayed multiple arm slots on a variety of plays and an internal clock for timing of throws. Infield velocity was 66 mph.

Matthew Turk, SS, Dominion (VA) 2020
5-foot-8, 155-pound athletic frame. Ran the 60 in 7.00. Stance is open and upright with hands set a little low. Uses a small pick-up to stride on line with a smooth hand load up and back with a slight bat wrap. Short and quick getting to the ball, bat path is flat, and stays on the ball through contact. Lower half starts the swing and finishes with violence. Exit velocity was 80 mph. Has a wider base at the catch with average hands. Looked fluid moving to the gloveside. Clean exchange and throws from a low three-quarter arm slot. Positional velocity was 74 mph.

Chris Torre, 3B, Briar Woods (VA) 2020
5-foot-9, 170-pound solid frame. Athletic stance with some rhythm, starts slightly closed, small pick up and put down to stride landing slightly closed. Hands load back to an arm bar, bat wraps at load, and bat is quick through the zone. Bat path is uphill and shows some strength getting the bat through the zone. Swing has some pull side tendency and exit velocity was 81 mph. Defensively feet were active and worked through the catch into the throw. Throws from a wider base. Arm action is short and throws from a high three-quarter arm slot at 70 mph. 60 time was 7.06.

2021

Jesus Del Valle, SS/OF, Bishop Ireton (VA) 2021
6-foot, 170-pound athletic frame. Posted a 7.06 60 time. Athletic stance, smooth load back to a slight arm bar, and bat wraps on load. Starts open and strides slightly closed after a small leg lift and toe tap, but still gets hips through finishing lower half with some aggression. Short and quick swing getting barrel through the zone with the path having some uphill tilt to it. Exit velo was 81 mph. Plays very loose and fluid showing some quick twitch tendencies in the infield. Hands are smooth and soft at reception with a clean exchange. Continues to show the ability to make a variety of plays throwing out of multiple slots with ease. Position velocity was 79 mph. Jesus continues to impress on both sides of the ball as he is growing into his athletic body and adding strength.

Eli Putnam, 3B, Whitman (MD) 2021
Strong athletic frame at 6-foot-2, 175-pounds. Starts with an open upright stance. Hands are relaxed and load in rhythm with a small knee to knee leg kick. Lands in line, bat is short to the ball and stays on it through extension with an uphill high finish. Lower half finishes completely and shows the ability to hit for power with an exit velocity of 90 mph. Defensively feet work well to get outside the ball and footwork is on time with soft hands at catch. Exchange is clean and rhythmic. Arm action is long throwing from a low three-quarter slot at 66 mph across the infield. Ran the 60 in 7.52.

Jake Becker, 2B/SS, Sherwood (MD) 2021
5-foot-7, 160-pound athletic frame. Fluid active footwork on approach and plays through the ball well. Has soft hands and clean exchange to a low three-quarter arm slot. Position velocity at 77 mph. Ran a 7.40 60. Stance is slightly closed and has balance and athleticism throughout the swing with a 83 mph exit velocity. Short simple load back and quick hands to get to a level bat path. Has extension on finish and uses the whole field well with a line drive type of swing.

Lucas Brauchli, SS/2B, George Marshall (VA) 2021
Strong projectable frame at 6-foot-1, 150-pounds. Starts open, slight arm bar on load, hands are back, knee to knee leg lift, and lands in line. Uphill bat path with extension and aggressive rotation of the lower half. Balance throughout the swing and stays through the ball. Exit velo is 77 mph. Feet are active on approach, gets outside the ball, hands are soft, and exchange is clean. Longer arm action from a low three-quarter slot and has a feel for different arm angles to make a variety of plays. Positional velocity is 76 mph. Recorded a 60 time of 7.57.

Drew Petitt, SS, Briar Woods (VA) 2021
Athletic makeup at 5-foot-8, 150-pounds. Showed some quickness with a 6.83 60. Stance starts open with some athletic posture. Simple toe tap to stride with same alignment as start. Hands in a strong position with a slight bat wrap. Gets on plane and was explosive through the zone with some aggression in the lower half at finish. Displayed the ability to hit for some power with pull side tendencies. Exit velo was 83 mph. Displayed active feet and a quick first step ranging side to side. Rhythm tap on exchange to a short quick arm action throwing from a high three-quarter slot. In the outfield feet were active on approach and gained ground through the ball. Clean exchange to a short arm quick arm action from a high three-quarter slot. Positional velocity was 75 mph. Defensively looked more comfortable and fluid from the outfield.

2022

Bryce Curry, SS/2B, Damascus (MD) 2022
6-foot-1, 160-pound rangy athletic frame. Showed exceptional athleticism and projectability throughout the event. Athletic open stance, hands load relaxed and free, and strides in line with balance throughout the swing. Bat path is uphill with a tendency to pull for power. Exit velocity was 78 mph. Defensively he posted a 74 mph positional velocity. Plays low with loose soft hands, fields out front, and works through the ball with active feet. Throws from a low three-quarter arm slot with the ability to throw from multiple angles and make plays on the move. 60 time was 7.32.

Lukas Geer, SS, Richard Montgomery (MD) 2022
6-foot-1, 150-pound long loose athletic makeup. Showed the ability to run while posting a 7.12 60. Starts in an upright closed off stance and strides closed. Hands are relaxed pre-load and move back to a vertical barrel during the hand load. Bat has an uphill path that should translate to some power as he grows into his frame. Lower half finished with some aggression. Exit velo was 78 mph. Fields with soft hands to a low exchange with a longer arm action, throwing from a high three-quarter arm slot. Follows the throw with some intent and posted a 79 mph positional velocity across the infield.

John Gibson, 1B, St. John's College (DC) 2022
6-foot-1, 185-pound long thin frame. Starts in an upright in line stance with free hands and some rhythm to the load. Toe tap to stride and lands in line gaining ground on the pitch. Level path and is short to the ball with with some balance and athleticism at finish. Uses lower half well with some aggression in his turn. Has the frame to add some strength and with the bat speed should produce some power as he matures. Exit velo was 77 mph. Fields with controlled slower movements around the bag. Soft hands to a clean exchange, long arm action with average arm speed and throws from a low-three quarter slot. Positional velocity was 71 mph. Posted a 60 time of 7.43.

Tommy Little, SS, Georgetown Prep (MD) 2022
Athletic frame at 5-foot-7, 145 pounds. Ran a 7.42 60. Open athletic stance with a quick pace to it. Hands at rest and load back on leg kick, stride finishes closed and narrow. Hands are quick and short to the ball, head stays behind contact, swing path is uphill. Exit velo was 70 mph. Gains ground on groundballs, approach is narrow and direct, catches the ball deep. Arm action is short and showed ability to throw from different arm angles on a variety of plays.

Ian Briddell, 1B, Woodbridge (VA) 2019
6-foot-2, 215 pound strong frame. Exit velocity is 91 mph and has the frame to add onto an already impressive number. Closed upright stance and simple pick up and put down to stride. Simple low load with a vertical bat at separation. Hands are quick and direct to the ball with a high two hand finish. Defensively has a short over the top arm action with average arm speed. Stays active with feet around the bag. Positional velocity was 64 mph. Produced a 8.00 60 time.

Alex Garvey, 1B, St. John's College Prep (DC) 2020
6-foot-1, 180-pound strong frame. Wider athletic setup with a simple stride thats starts in line and stays there. Hands load smooth to separation, hands and barrel are quick through the zone with a slight uphill path. Showed ability to spray line drives around the field. Head stays behind the ball and finishes with some balance. Exit velo was 79 mph. Feet work well around the bag and showed an instinctiveness while making a variety of plays. Has a short quick arm action throwing from a high three-quarter arm slot at 72 mph. Ran a 60 time of 7.19.

Adam Gleaton, 3B, Damascus (MD) 2020
6-foot, 210-pound solid strong frame. Athletic setup with hands tight to shoulder, stance starts and finishes slightly closed. Rhythm in the load with the small leg lift to stride. Hands lower into a short quick bat path with uphill tilt to a high two hand finish and lower half finishes completely. Exit velo was 73 mph. Active feet to approach, fields it deep with strong hands, longer arm action with a low three-quarter arm slot and average arm speed. Positional velocity 68 mph. 60 time is 7.85.

Armando Grado, 1B, Meadowbrook 2022
6-foot-3, 250-pound big strong frame. Upright athletic stance, feet start closed, toe tap to stride landing closed. Rhythmic hand load, short and quick to the ball with a flat short path, and a two hand finish. There is strength in the swing as shown by a 83 mph exit velo. Feet work laterally on approach, soft hands fielding, exchange and arm action is longer with a low three-quarter slot. Posted a 60 time of 8.06.

Colin Mullahey, 3B/RHP, Brick Memorial (NJ) 2022
Solid frame standing at 5-foot-11, 200-pounds. Upright on line stance with hands set high. Small toe tap to stride, lands in line, hands load with a slight bat wrap. Bat path is level with the lower half rotating to finish. Exit velocity was 76 mph. Feet are active to catch, clean exchange with a rhythm pat. Throws with a long arm action from a low three-quarter slot at 59 mph. 60 time was 8.03.

Eddy Navarro, 3B/SS, Central York (PA) 2021
Strong frame at 5-foot-10, 200-pounds. From the left side stance started athletic and open with hands relaxed. Short on line stride with a quick hand load. Hands were quick and explosive through the zone and barrel was strong through contact. Swing showed some uphill tilt with some gap to gap power potential. Right side stance was similar, athletic and open, but head drifted slightly forward and there was a more pronounced leg lift to striding slightly closed. Hands were still explosive through the zone and showed strength from both sides, but swing looked more fluid from the left side. Feet were active and worked through the ball and hands were soft. Arm action was long throwing from an over the top slot, but displayed some arm speed throwing across at 74 mph. 60 time was 7.60.

Kyle Carl, SS, Glenelg (MD) 2022
5-foot-11, 140-pound athletic frame. Posted a 7.37 60 time. Starts in an athletic slightly open stance, gets back in line with a toe tap to stride, hands have a start and stop load with an uphill bat path. Utilizes the middle of the field well and barrels stays through the hitting zone with a high upright finish. Exit velocity was 73 mph. Feet are active early, gets to the ball and plays through it with soft hands. Throws from a longer low three-quarter arm slot with a positional velocity of 69 mph.

Steven Chapman, SS, Georgetown Prep 2022
5-foot-10, 160-pound solid frame. Athletic setup in line and lands slightly closed. Hands load to a low slot with a small leg lift to stride.. Displayed ability to pull hands inside when necessary. Swing path gets on plane early, head is quiet, and swing is balanced throughout. Exit velocity is 72. Posted a 7.96 60 time.

Kevon Davis, 2B, Aberdeen (MD) 2020
5-foot-6, 190-pound solid frame. Upright in line stance, hands are relaxed, small leg lift to stride, and lands in line. Flat bat path with a two handed finish. Exit velocity is 78 mph. Feet are active through catch. Throws from a low three-quarter arm slot with a longer arm action. Positional velocity is 61 mph. Ran a 7.75 60.

Brian Depman, SS/RHP, Georgetown Prep (MD) 2021
6-foot, 160-pounds strong frame. Ran a 7.37 60. Athletic in line setup with a small leg lift and toe tap and strides in line. Hands get back with a smooth simple load and they get through the zone quick. Barrel has a slight uphill path and finishes high with lower half finishing with some aggression. Works gap to gap with a 79 mph exit velo. Actions are fluid and feet are active through the catch. Hands are soft and clean on the exchange and he displays the ability to throw from multiple angles on various plays. Slower delivery with controlled low effort mechanics. Arm action is short and over the top with average arm speed. Lands in line on foot strike. Fastball is around the zone and sits at 71-73 mph. Has good feel for the changeup and has late fade to it. Changeup should be a reliable secondary pitch as he shows consistent arm speed.

Teddy Gerkin, SS/RHP, Georgetown Prep (MD) 2022
5-foot-9, 140-pound compact frame. Open stance with a toe tap to land in line. Hands start back and are direct to the ball with a flat short bat path. Showed ability to pull hands in when necessary. Exit velo was 75 mph. Feet are active and work through the ball, clean exchange with a rhythm pat post exchange. Arm action is longer and throws it from a low three-quarter arm slot. Upright setup on the mound with a high leg lift to balance with a down and out stride landing in line. Hand-break happens low with a longer arm action from a low three-quarter slot. Fastball tends to finish arm side at 64 mph. Curveball has an 11/5 shape and showed ability to repeat arm speed. Ran the 60 in 8.56.

Ben Goforth, 2B, Good Counsel (MD) 2021
5-foot-3, 110-pound compact athletic frame. Open athletic stance with a short stride to slightly closed. Hands load with some rhythm and bat gets on plane with a slight uphill tilt. Has some quickness and flow to the swing finishing balanced and behind the ball. Exit velo of 60 mph. Rhythm and tempo on the defensive side with a solid approach around groundballs and soft clean catches to exchange. Throws with a short arm action from a low three-quarter arm slot with a positional velocity of 52 mph. Ran a 7.66 60.

Nicholas Graham, SS, Georgetown Prep (MD) 2021
Strong frame at 5-foot-10, 170-pounds. Slightly open athletic stance using a small leg kick to stride landing in line. Has rhythm to the load with hands being pre-set back. Gets on plane with some uphill tilt to the swing. Gets extension out front, uses a high finish, and shows some aggression in the lower half maintaining balance throughout. Displayed some bat speed and strength in the swing and posted a 75 mph exit velo. Feet are active on approach and work through the catch. Clean exchange with a short arm action throwing from a low three-quarter arm slot. Positional velo was 71 mph. Ran the 60 in 7.69.

Zach Mazur, SS/3B, Stone Bridge (VA) 2021
6-foot-2, 178-pound athletic frame with some length. Relaxed athletic stance starting slightly open. Hands load back, small stride forward landing slightly closed, bat path is level and should produce some gap to gap capability. Hips were explosive and Exit velo was 80 mph and Mazur showed some strength and quickness through the zone. Defensively plays low, fields out front, feet are active on approach and plays through the ball. Arm action is long, shows some arm speed throwing from a high three-quarter slot at 74 mph. 60 time was 7.33.

Isaiah Morris, SS, Jefferson (WV) 2021
5-foot-11, 155-pound athletic frame. Athletic on line stance with a toe tap to stride landing on line. Setup has some rhythm and swagger to it. Hands load easy and lands in a strong hitting position, level bat path, hips turned with some violence, and bat was quick through the zone. Swing had intent with some pull side tendencies. Exit velo was 74 mph. Looked the part defensively showing some feel for the position. Worked at 2B on the day, but appeared to have the ability to play the left side with some added arm strength. Feet were active and worked well, good glove presentation with soft hands and clean exchange. Showed ability to throw from multiple angles on a variety of plays. Positional velocity was 65 mph. Ran a 7.18 60.

Ryan Rodriguez, SS, Georgetown Prep (MD) 2022
5-foot-7 compact athletic frame. Hits from the left side with a slightly crouched stance. Starts on line, strides to the toe before the heal, and lands slightly closed. Hands load in rhythm and get back on time. Bat path is flat showing a line drive approach and displayed the ability to use the entire field. Lower half finishes completely and showed balance throughout the swing. Exit velocity was 70 mph. On defense the feet worked well on approach moving through the ball cutting distance on plays. Played low and behind the ball with soft hands. Exchange was clean and displayed ability to throw from multiple arm slots and make plays on the move. Infield velocity was 62 mph. Ran the 60 in 7.40.

Matt Ryan, SS/2B, Walt Whitman (MD) 2021
Solid athletic frame at 5-foot-10, 150-pounds. Recorded a 60 time of 7.06. Athletic in line stance at the plate with a small stride forward landing on line. Hands are free and load with rhythm into a strong hitting position when the foot gets down. Uphill path to the swing with pull-side tendency shows the potential for power. Hips and lower half finish with violence. Exit velocity was 78 mph. Showed active feet on approach working through the ball, lateral quickness and range, and feel for the position making multiple plays with ease. Displayed ability to throw from multiple arm slots with some arm strength and quickness getting rid of the ball. Positional velocity was 79 mph.

Dominic Scurfield, 3B/C, Georgetown Prep (MD) 2020
5-foot-10, 165-pound solid frame. Upright stance that starts and finishes slightly closed with no stride. Hands load back, bat path is flat, showed ability to pull hands in, and maintained balance throughout the swing. Would benefit from finishing lower half completely. Exit velocity was 79 mph. Behind the plate the exchange is quick and clean with a short arm action. Throws from a low three-quarter arm slot at 68 mph with a pop range of 1.93-2.25. Arm has a slight recoil on finish and lower needs to finish through the throw. Ran the 60 in 7.77.

Connor Smith, 3B, St. John's College Prep (DC) 2021
Strong frame at 5-foot-8, 185-pounds. Slightly open stance in a crouched position. Small leg kick landing on line at stride. Hands load back with a slight arm bar and bat wrap. Hands are short to the ball with a level path. Showed a feel for timing and head stayed behind the barrel on contact and maintained balance throughout. Exit velocity was 83 mph. At 3B played low on contact and feet were active to the catch. On catch brought the ball to center for a clean exchange to a long arm action from a low three-quarter arm slot. Positional velocity was 72 mph. Ran a 7.22 60.

Baker Stewart, SS, Home School (VA) 2022
5-foot-8, 145-pound athletic frame. Starts in an open upright stance with a small toe tap to stride landing on line. Hands load back with some rhythm, short path to the ball with a slight uphill tilt to the swing. Has a pull side tendency and posted an exit velocity of 72 mph. Defensively feet are active on approach and work into the throw. Exchange was clean to a short arm action throwing from a low three-quarter arm slot. Positional velocity was 66 mph across the field. 60 time was 7.34.

Daulton Stewart, 3B, Sherwood (MD) 2021
Compact 5-foot-8, 165-pound frame. On line athletic stance with a knee to knee lift to stride landing on line. Slight arm bar on hand load, hands drop getting through the zone causing an uphill tilt to the swing path and finishing with a high two hand finish. Exit velo was 76 mph. Works low off the bag at first with active feet on approach. Fields with soft hands, clean exchange, short arm action with average arm speed. Throws from a high three-quarter arm slot at 63 mph across the field. 60 time was 7.83.

Adam Stitt, 2B/RHP, Lake Braddock (VA) 2022
5-foot-6, 136-pound compact frame. Closed stance from the left side with hands set high. Small pick up and put down to stride. Longer flat bat path that stays through contact to a high two hand finish. Exit velocity was 62 mph. Defensively works through the catch into the throw. Gets upright post catch to a clean exchange and a short arm action throwing from a high three-quarter slot at 53 mph. On the mound has a side step delivery to a high balance point. Lands closed at foot strike with a short arm action throwing from a high three-quarter arm slot with an arm recoil post release. Fastball sat between 50-53 mph. Curveball had a bigger break with a 11/5 shape. 60 time was 9.53.

Jake Sweeney, SS/RHP, Georgetown Prep (MD) 2022
5-foot-10, 165-pound solid frame. Wider athletic on line stance striding into a closed finish. Hands have some rhythm loading back and setting high, short to the ball, showed ability to pull the hands inside, and had an uphill path to the swing. Exit velocity was 74 mph and can get more power out of the swing as he had tendency to finish too wide and not finish the backside. On defense showed active feet on approach and soft hands to a clean exchange. Arm action was a little long and threw from a low three quarter arm slot at 70 mph. 60 time was a 8.28.

Jake Turner, 1B/3B, Oakdale (MD) 2020
5-foot-9, 180-pound strong frame. Stance is narrow and upright with big stride forward landing slightly open. Hands load back to a slight arm bar, but uses hand strength to get the bat through with some force. Bat has a slight uphill path to produce line drives with the ability to drive the ball gap to gap. Exit velo was 83 mph. Average footwork around the bag and works low to the catch. Clean exchange to a longer arm action, but arm speed gets it through fairly quick from a low three-quarter arm slot. Positional velocity was 62 mph. 60 time was 7.21.

Timothy Walsh, SS/RHP, Georgetown Prep 2022
5-foot-10, 150-pound long thin frame. On the mound showed an athletic setup from the stretch with hands set high. High balance point, gathered over the rubber, and down and out to stride landing on line. Short arm circle to release from a low three-quarter arm slot. Stayed in his lane moving home and finished in a good fielding position. At the plate stance was athletic and on line. Hands loaded back from a high-forward position and a short stride forward landing slightly open. Hands are quick to get in the hitting zone and bat path is short to contact with a slight uphill path through extension. Exit velocity was 66 mph. Lateral movements on approach, fielded groundballs deep and on heels, and short arm path to release from a low three-quarter slot. Positional velocity was 66 mph. Ran the 60 in 7.68.
