Diamondskills All American Camp: Outfield Analysis

The Diamondskills All American Camp was held over three weekends in the month of January. Georgetown Preparatory School was the host is their large indoor facility on campus. Well over 100 players were in attendance to perform in front of the PBR Scouting Staff as well as colleges from across the region.

We continue our player evaluation breakdowns from the event. We have already done catchers, now next stop is the outfield position with close to 30 players involved. We will break down the top performers from the event by class, followed by the complete evaluations from every catcher that performed at the event.

We will breakdown our evaluations by position throughout the week and finish up with our top overall performers list on Friday.

Top Performers

2019

KJ Jarrett, OF, Long Reach 2019
Athletic frame at 5-foot-10 and 160-pounds. Ran a 60 time in 7.06. Athletic open stance with rhythm and flow to load. Small pick up and stride to slightly closed. Short to the ball with an uphill plane to the swing and a high balanced finish. Bat gets through the zone with some speed and strength. Put up an exit velo of 76 mph. Feet are active getting behind the ball and gain ground on the catch with a pro hop. Exchange is quick and clean, uses a rhythm glove tap to a longer arm action throwing from a low three-quarter arm slot at 73 mph.

Noah June, OF/LHP, Meade 2019
5-foot-8, 160-pound athletic frame. Ran an impressive 60 at 6.75. Hitting from the left side in an athletic stance, starts in line with very small stride to slightly closed at foot strike. Hands are back, minimal load, short and quick to the ball with a consistent high one hand finish. Swing stays through extension and finishes lower half completely.  Exit velo was 82 mph. Feet are active and in rhythm on the catch, steps through to crow hop to throw. Exchange is clean, short arm action with average arm speed, throws from a high three-quarter arm slot. Positional velocity was 78 mph. Fluid easy effort delivery, high upright balance point, longer arm action from a high three-quarter slot. Lands in line and stays in line post release. Showed the ability to locate the fastball, throwing it at 74-76 mph. Changeup had some late fade to it at 54-55 mph and the breaking ball showed a little bit of 11/5 shape with a slower arm speed.

2020

Connor Leard, OF/RHP, Glenelg 2020
Big projectable frame at 6-foot-4, 180-pounds. Athletic open stance at the plate. Strides closed with a smooth hand load back with a slight arm bar. Short to the ball with a flat path and high finish. Showed some bat speed and strength through the zone and posted a 84 mph exit velo. Slower approach to the ball with choppy steps working through it to a bigger crow hop. Clean exchange to a longer arm action throwing from a low three-quarter slot at 79 mph. Slower paced delivery, engages lower half, strides in line, throws from a low three-quarter arm slot, with a recoil on finish. Fastball works at 78-80 mph with some arm side run. Changeup was 62-63 mph with late life and showed feel for the pitch with present arm speed. Curveball showed 11/5 shape with depth changing multiple planes at 60-62 mph. Ran a 7.06 60

Brennan Ellis, OF, Quince Orchard 2020
5-foot-11, 170-pound solid frame. Delivered a 6.85 60 time. Starts in a athletic stance with a short toe tap to stride landing slightly closed. Hands are back with a slight bat wrap. Hands are very short and direct to the ball with a level swing to contact and a high finish. Gets the lower half through and ends with a balanced upright position. Exit velo was 77 mph. Feet are active and under control through the catch. Stays behind the ball and uses a crow hop to get to release. Has a longer arm action with a high three-quarter arm slot with average arm speed. Positional velocity was 77 mph.

Hunter DiCello, OF, St. John’s College Prep 2020
5-foot-7, 140-pound athletic frame. Posted a 6.82 60 time. Athletic setup at the plate with simple efficient movements throughout. Starts slightly open with a pick up and put down in line at stride. Hands are relaxed at setup with a smooth load back. Swing has a level path with extension and a high two hand finish. Exit velo is 78 mph. Defensive movements are quiet and fluid on approach with some pace and intent on catch to release. Utilizes pro hop to throw from a longer high three-quarter arm slot with some arm speed. Tracks the ball and closes ground with ease. Positional velo is 81 mph.

2021

James Wood, OF/RHP, St. John’s College Prep 2021
Big athletic projectable frame at 6-foot-5, 201-pounds. Ran a 6.97 60. Stance is athletic and starts square. Small pick-up to stride landing slightly closed, hands load back and move down getting into an uphill swing path. Barrel stays through extension creating a long path through the hitting zone and lower half finishes completely. Swing shows big time power with easy effort getting the bat through. Exit velo was 89 mph. Feet are active and under control on approach and solid glove presentation to catch. Easy long strides covering lots of ground getting to flyballs in the outfield. Clean exchange away from the body moving into a long arm circle and throws from a three-quarter slot. Positional velocity was 81 mph.

Cian Sahler, OF/LHP, Georgetown Prep 2021
5-foot-9, 150-pound solid frame. On the mound setup is relaxed and athletic with high balance point with repeatable mechanics. Lands in line after a more up-down-out move home. Showed arm speed on a short quick arm action with a low three-quarter arm slot. Has ability to throw three pitches for strikes, two of which are legitimate offspeed pitches. Fastball sat between 75-77 mph and got up to 80 mph a few times with late arm side run. Curveball and changeup both showed consistent arm speed and slot. The curveball was tight with 1/7 shape and sat between 68-69 mph. Changeup was firm at 71-73 mph and showed late life. At the plate showed an open athletic stance with hands relaxed and set low. Gets hands up on load, strides in to a closed stance which stops lower half from finishing completely. Hands are quick through the zone and there is some whip in the bat as it gets through. Showed ability to work line drives with a flat bat path through contact. Exit velocity was 82 mph. In the outfield had an active yet controlled approach to the catch then utilizing a pro-hop to release. The pace picked up on exchange and showed a quick arm from a high three-quarter arm slot with some arm speed. Positional velocity was 82 mph. Ran the 60 in 7.63.

Cooper May, OF, St. John’s College Prep 2021
Athletic makeup at 5-foot-9, 155-pounds. Showed athleticism and quickness with a 6.82 60 time. Upright slightly open stance landing with a toe tap at stride.  Lands slightly closed, hands are relaxed and quiet on load, lands in a strong position, bat is quick through the zone with an uphill path. Showed some strength through contact and recorded an exit velo of 80 mph. Lower half showed some explosiveness and swing finished with balance. Feet are active into the catch, gets behind the ball, and a clean exchange at center. Recorded an outfield velocity of 81 mph from a high three-quarter slot with arm speed.

2022

Cory Hatcher, OF, St. John’s College 2022
5-foot-6, 130-pound thin athletic frame. Displayed quickness while running a 6.84 60. Stance is athletic with hands set high, starts in line with a toe tap to stride in line. Hands load to a strong hitting position and are short to the ball getting on plane for a line drive type of swing path. Stays through the ball to extension and finishes high. Is balanced and uses lower half completely. Exit velo is 70 mph. Smooth athletic approach to catch, working the feet through the ball, and utilizing a higher crow hop to create momentum on the throw. Arm action is longer with average arm speed and ball gets out from a low three-quarter arm slot at 70 mph. Closes on flyballs with ease.

Isaiah Beseris, OF/LHP, Mt. Carmel 2022
6-foot-2, 155-pound lanky athletic frame. Ran a 7.12 60. Athletic in line setup with toe tap to stride. Lands slightly open with short quick hands to the ball. Fires the hips with aggression and finished upright. Shows some power potential as he grows into his frame and adds strength. Exit velocity at 74 mph. Slower fluid approach to the ball in the outfield and plays through the ball. Utilizes a step through pro-hop with a longer high three-quarter arm action with a 65 mph positional velocity. Smooth, low effort delivery and stays tall throughout. Maintains level shoulders throughout delivery and is slightly rushed at balance point. Has a high three-quarter arm slot with below average arm speed. Is in line with an open foot at landing and finishes upright. FB 63-65 CB 50-53. Curveball displayed a tight 1/7 shape at times with some depth and ability to locate it.

Corey Bodnar, OF, Severna Park 2020
5-foot-11, 165-pound strong athletic frame. Athletic stance that starts open and lands in line. Smooth load to separation and a short uphill swing path with average bat speed. Maintains balance and athleticism throughout the swing. Exit velocity at 76 mph. Active feet throughout the catch, works through the ball, and small crow-hop on step through to exchange throwing at a longer low three-quarter arm action. With a 6.75 60 he possesses the foot speed to close on the ball and cover a lot of ground in the outfield.

Brendan Condron, OF/RHP, Georgetown Prep 2021
6-foot, 170-pound strong frame. Ran the 60 in 7.53. Stance is open and upright and lands in line at stride. Hands load smooth with a short level path to the ball. Maintains balance throughout the swing and stays on the ball through contact. Exit velocity  is 79 mph. Feet are active through the catch and works through the ball well with soft hands. Exchange is clean and throws from a low three-quarter arm slot. Positional velocity was 75 mph. On the mound pitches with a slower low effort delivery. Lands open at foot strike and uses a low three-quarter arm slot while pitching. Fastball was 70-73 and got up to 75 mph with some sink to it at times. Changeup was 60-61 mph with late fade. Curveball showed a 10/4 shape while sitting at 50-52 mph.

Logan DeBord, OF, Oakdale 2020
5-foot-8, 150-pound athletic frame. Starts in line with an upright stance and a simple pick up and put down to stride landing slightly closed. Short load back, direct to the ball, and gets uphill tilt in the swing path. Stays behind the ball well with balance throughout and extension at finish. Displayed good bat speed with an exit velocity of 77 mph. Defensively gets eyes behind the ball, feet are active through the catch, and makes a clean exchange. Throws with a longer arm action from a high three-quarter arm slot. Has intent behind his throws and showed off a solid arm with a 81 mph positional velocity. Displayed some athleticism and quickness while posting a 7.07 60.

Lee Domer, OF, St. John’s College Prep 2020
5-foot-11, 160-pound long athletic frame. Ran an impressive 6.76 60, moving with long easy strides. Stance is upright and slightly open, striding short to slightly closed. Minimal hand load, short and direct to the ball, and displayed the ability to pull the hands inside when necessary. Barrel got level and on plane with extension through contact. Exit velo was 75 mph. Feet were active and under control on approach, received ball out front with soft hands, and used pro hop from catch to throw. Arm action was long with average arm speed throwing from over the top. Positional velo was 76 mph. Covered ground on flyballs well with a quiet head throughout.

Matthew Drumgold, OF, Potomac 2022
5-foot-8, 160 pound solid athletic frame. Ran a 7.16 60. Athletic in line stance, uses a short lift to stride, and hands make slight movement back on load. Hands are direct and the bat has a flat path and gets uphill post contact. Exit velo was 76 mph. Defensive movements are fluid and feet are active through the catch. Showed ability to use different footwork patterns while making various plays in the outfield. Hands are soft and exchange at center to a long arm action with a high three-quarter release. Moved easy to fly balls and got behind it at catch. Showed a positional velo of 77 mph.

Cole Edmonds, OF, DeMatha Catholic 2022
5-foot-7, 100-pound thin frame. Gets behind the ball and works through it with a step behind to throw. Fields out front with a clean exchange. Shoulders get uphill on exchange to release. Arm action is long with a high three-quarter arm slot. Positional velocity was 63 mph. At the plate has an athletic stance with hands set high. Starts open and strides with toe tap to an open finish. Hands are direct to the ball and bat path is flat and short through the zone. Finishes the lower half. Exit velo was 53 mph. Ran a 7.85 60.

Max Ferguson, OF/RHP, Bullis 2021
6-foot-2, 165-pound long athletic frame with more projection to it. Ran a quick 6.69 60 with long easy strides. Hands load back and then drop as they move through the zone showing an uphill path working from gap to gap. Lands slightly closed after a short toe tap stride. Exit velo was 74 mph. Slower controlled footwork on approach using a crow hop to release and finishes with a wider base. Has a longer arm action throwing from a high three-quarter arm slot. Positional velocity was 69 mph.

Luis Hernandez, OF, Battlefield 2021
Solid frame standing at 5-foot-10, 155-pounds. Ran a 6.95 60. Shows some athleticism in the stance with a pronounced leg kick to stride landing in line. Hands stay quiet on load with a slight arm bar on first move and a flat path with a high upright two hand finish. Exit velo is 75 mph. Attacked the groundball with a quick pace fielding out front and gaining ground on the throw. Flyball footwork had a slower controlled pace with a left shoulder catch to a crow hop. Arm had some speed to it throwing from a high three-quarter arm slot with a 79 mph positional velocity.  

Renz Johnson, OF/RHP, Walt Whitman 2020
6-foot, 145-pound thin athletic frame. Ran a 7.09 60. Open upright stance striding to a wider in line base at stride. Hands load low and get on plane early with a slight arm bar. Path is level and short through extension. Exit velo was 77 mph. Delivery has a slower pace with a pause at the balance point. Hands drop low on hand break to a longer arm action from a high three-quarter arm slot. Lands in line and stops the arm on finish. Fastball sat at 65-68 mph.    

Cameron Kennedy, OF, St. John’s College Prep 2022
5-foot-7, 145-pound compact frame. Ran a 7.59 60. In line athletic stance, short toe tap stride to slightly closed. Hands are short to the ball and swing has an uphill path with a high one handed upright finish. Lower half finishes completely and has an exit velo of 71 mph. Feet are active and choppy on approach, stays behind the ball at catch, uses a crow hop to release and finishes through the throw. Arm action is longer with a high three-quarter release at 69 mph.

Ben Litkowski, OF, Severna Park 2020
Solid frame standing 5-foot-11, 175-pounds. Displayed some quickness with a 6.94 60. Athletic stance starting closed, quick paced leg lift landing closed, hands and bat are quick through the zone with an uphill path to the swing. High one hand finish with some balance through the swing. Exit velo was 77 mph. Defensively gets behind the ball, feet active on approach, clean exchange, arm action is long with slower arm speed throwing from a low three-quarter arm slot.

Joseph Longo, OF, Agawam 2020
Strong frame at 5-foot-10, 170-pounds. Athletic stance with some rhythm and flow. Starts open and strides slightly closed with hands back and an arm bar. Hands drop creating an uphill path to the swing to a high finish. Showed some strength with hands and barrel posting an exit velo of 86 mph. Feet are active and create some momentum into the throw. Makes a clean exchange to a low three-quarter arm slot showing arm speed to release. Positional velocity of 77 mph. Ran the 60 in 7.20.

Brian McCormick, OF, Georgetown Prep 2021
Solid athletic 6-foot, 160-pound frame. Ran his 60 in 6.88. Upright on line stance, hands load low, knee to knee leg lift landing slightly closed. Short to the ball, showed ability to pull hands in with a flat bat path. Bat is short through extension and posted an exit velo of 78 mph. Gets behind the ball on catch with active feet into the throw. Uses a crow hop with a long arm action. Average arm speed throwing from a high three-quarter arm slot at 68 mph.

Nicholas Payne, OF, Georgetown Prep 2022
Athletic 5-foot-7, 140-pound frame. In line athletic setup with a simple toe tap to stride. Showed some rhythm in load and stride with good timing. Short flat path through the zone, could benefit from finishing lower half completely, high two hand finish. Exit velo was 70 mph. Ran the 60 in 7.32.

Cameron Rees, OF, South River 2019
5-foot-10, 150-pound athletic frame. Posted a 60 yd time of 7.03. Starts in an upright on line stance. Small pick-up with toe tap to stride landing closed. Hands load quick and wraps the bat on load. Showed some quickness getting hands and barrel through the zone with a level bat path and worked the middle of the field. Exit velocity was 77 mph. Feet were active on approach getting behind the ball and working through it with a crow hop to release. Exchange was quick and clean to a short quick arm action from an over the top slot. Had some arm speed on throws and displayed a positional velocity of 81 mph.

Nick Scurfield, OF/LHP, Georgetown Prep 2020
5-foot-9, 145-pound athletic frame. On the mound showed an athletic slightly crouched setup for delivery from the stretch. Delivery was an easy low effort approach, low balance point on pickup and lands on line at foot strike. Long arm action with average arm speed throwing out of a low three-quarter arm slot. Fastball showed some arm side run and was around the zone. Curveball had a 1/7 shape with a bigger break changing multiple planes. At the plate displayed an athletic stance from the left side with a small leg lift to stride. Stance starts slightly closed and lands closed. Hands are back and stay inside while moving through the hitting zone, path has an uphill tilt with an exit velocity of 73 mph. Could stay in legs a little longer and finish lower half completely. Feet are active on approach and solid glove presentation on catch. Arm action is long throwing from a low three-quarter arm slot at 69 mph from the outfield. 60 time was 7.70.

Randle Washington-Dickerson, OF, DeMatha Catholic 2021
5-foot-8, 140-pound athletic frame. Ran an impressive 6.88 60. At the plate starts with an open athletic stance, pick up and stride forward to landing closed, hands load back with a bat wrap. Pulls the hands down and in to contact with short extension through contact. Swing has a pull side tendency. Exit velocity was 70 mph. Feet are active on approach and works through the ball to gain momentum into the throw. Solid glove presentation on groundballs, moves to a clean exchange, and a long arm action. Throws from a three-quarter arm slot at 67 mph.
