Draft League Spotlight: Chad McDaniel

David Seifert
Director of College Scouting

Player: Chad McDaniel
Position: C/OF
School: Missouri

Strong, fast and athletic, McDaniel projects more towards a corner outfield spot or first base. He blocks and throws well showing good feet and agility; however, he does not look natural sitting or receiving behind the dish. Although his likely future position may be outfield or first base, McDaniel could become the rare backstop who hits instead of catches his way to the big leagues, like John Jaso. The switch-hitter projects to hit for power over average with above average raw power from the left-side and just below average from the right. His left-handed swing and approach are well ahead of his right side at this time. He’s a plus runner underway, stealing 16 bases in 22 attempts during the 2019 season. Overall, he’s big (6-foot-3, 215 pounds) and athletic with an idea at the plate and with defensive improvements and a strong redshirt junior season offensively, he has the potential to become a top 10 round selection.
