Draft League Spotlight: DJ Carpenter

School: Central Arizona College

A NorCal native, Carpenter was selected in the 15th round by the Phillies in 2018. He is now the closer at Central Arizona College, the No. 1 ranked JUCO in the country and has committed to Oregon State. He stands 6-foot-8, 240-pounds with a long high waisted body and a durable frame. He throws with a simple delivery from three-quarter slot with short arm action and lands slightly closed. With average command his fastball sits 93-94 and topped out at 95 during his debut to the 2021 spring season. Carpenter topped out at 98 mph last fall and has a good chance to climb back into that range as the season progresses. His offspeed is currently developing. He throws an 84-85 mph slider with more cutter action and also flashed a mid-80s changeup.
