Draft League Spotlight: Ian Villers

Player: Ian Villers
Position: RHP

School: California

A 19th-round pick by San Diego out of high school in 2018, Villers has come on strong for Cal this season, pitching with more control and missing more bats while operating in a few different roles for the Golden Bears. The 6-foot-5, 235-pound right-hander can run his heater up to 97-98 mph and sits 94-96, generating that plus velocity with ease. Villers’ secondary stuff is still developing but shows promise. He features a pair of breaking balls in slider/cutter that has tight, short action and curveball that he throws with good depth. Villers also throws a spit-change in the high 70s that he struggles to command.
