Director of College Scouting

Player: Jalen Jones
Position: SS/CF
School: Southwestern Illinois College

An Eastern Kentucky commit, Jones previously attended Western Carolina before his transfer to junior college. At 5-foot-11, 180 pounds he is a very good athlete with a well-rounded toolset. His top tool is run speed, clocking a 6.70 sixty on a slow track during a scout day the fall of 2020. He also has a strong arm, showing 88 mph across the infield from shortstop and 91 mph from the outfield. In the batter’s box he shows both bat speed and strength with exit velocities topping out around 103 mph. After batting .289 with a .376 SLG% in 146 at-bats as a true freshman for WCU Jones combines defensive versatility with proven hit-ability. With a strong spring in junior college and a summer in the Draft League, look for Jones to vault up draft lists prior to the 2021 MLB Draft.
