Draft League Spotlight: Shawn Goosenberg

Mike Rosenbaum
Senior Prospect Analyst

Player: Shawn Goosenberg
Position: SS/2B
School: Northwestern

Goosenberg made an impact as Wildcats freshman in 2019, hitting .288/.338/.397 in 49 games to garner All-Big Ten Freshman honors. He began to show a bit more power during the shortened 2020 season before erupting to hit 10 home runs in his first 21 games in 2021, including a walk-off against Michigan State on March 14. A plus runner and solid all-around player, Goosenberg puts his athleticism on full display as a shortstop and possesses the requisite defensive tools needed to play anywhere on the infield. The 6-foot-1, 195-pound right-handed hitter’s uptick in power this spring could become a separator for him as teams continue to evaluate this year’s crop of Draft-eligible college shortstops.
