EL PASO, T.X. – There was a lot of energy around the sun city this past weekend with the No. 1 Southlake Carroll Dragons in town. With the that energy came a lot of high-end talent. Below is a notebook filled with some of the top prospects that were on display.

ARMS

Griffin Herring, LHP, Southlake, 2022
LSU Recruit. 6-foot-2, 178-pounds, long-limbed, projectable frame. The young southpaw works from a high ¾ slot with a medium arm swing. Herring was able to keep a solid Montwood offense off balance for the majority of his outing, pounding the strike-zone, a creating a lot of swing and misses. His FB sat 85-87mph, topping out at 88mph with late life. SL has tight 1/7 shape with short late break at 76-78 mph. Definitely, one of the top 2022 left-handers in the state.

Paul Bonzagni, RHP, Southlake, 2020
St. Edward’s Recruit. 6-foot-2, 185-pound athletic frame. The right-hander works from a high ¾ arm slot with a long, quick arm swing. Smooth delivery. Struggled a bit with location early on the outing but was ultimately able to settle in and find a rhythm as the outing went on. His FB worked 88-90 topping out at 92 with late, heavy sink. CB (11/5 shape) pops out of the hand early with sharp late break at 73-74 mph. Will play key role on the mound for the Dragons this season.
