Top Performers

Ethan Applegate OF / 3B / Independence , VA / 2022

Projectable frame at 6’3’’, 195 pounds. Outfielder out of Independence High School in Virginia playing with FTB Mid-Atlantic. Applegate had one of the more solid performances on the day beginning with a 7.14 60-yard time on a freezing cold afternoon. He then showed off a pretty strong arm from the outfield with throws that showed carry at 82 mph. Does a really nice job of staying behind the ball at the plate with balance. Shows extension with an uphill swing path and bat speed through the zone. Recorded a 91 mph exit velocity per TrackMan which translated into some nice middle of the field and pull side pop.

Matt Bishop LHP / OF / John Carroll, MD / 2023

Athletic 5’11”, 165 pound frame with some present strength. Quick outfielder out of John Carroll who posted a 7.08 60-yard time. At the plate, Bishop produces consistent hard contact with a solid middle of the field approach. Stays behind the ball well with some barrel control and solid balance throughout. The barrel stays through the zone with a more level swing path, recording an 83 mph exit velocity per TrackMan. Showed athleticism and quick feet in the outfield, fielding the ball out in front with quick, clean actions. Throws showed accuracy and carry at 79 mph. From the bump, Bishop throws with longer arm action from a high three-quarter slot. Tall, compact balance point with a repeatable delivery  and strong leg drive down the mound. Gets solid extension over the front side with some quick arm speed and a solid three pitch mix. Showed feel and command for the fastball to both sides of the plate at 76-78 mph with some arm side run to it. The curveball tended to back up at 65-68 mph with tight 1/7 shape and a change-up that had some late fade down in the zone at 72-74 mph.

Jack Bussard LHP / McDonogh, MD / 2023

Bussard was easily one of the top arms at the event. In addition to recently re-classifying, he has also put on a significant amount of strength to his 6’4’’, 200 pound frame. That added strength has contributed to him making significant jumps on the bump as evidenced by his bullpen. Bussard sat 85-87 mph from the left side with slight arm-side run and the change-up was 76-77 mph. He featured two breaking balls; the curveball showed bigger 11/5 shape at 70-72 mph and the slider was tight with short break at 75-77 mph. Showed outstanding front-side extension throwing with a shorter arm-circle from a high three-quarter slot. Really exciting to see him make this jump and combined with the re-class, Bussard will be a highly sought after prospect in the 2023 class this year.
