Fall Underclass Games: Middle Infield Analysis

For the fifth year, Prep Baseball Report - Missouri/Kansas held the Fall Underclass Games in Manhattan, Kansas at Kansas State University.  Nearly 50 players from Missouri and Kansas participated in the 2021 and 2020 classes.

Players can now updated their profiles with a ProspectPlus subscription, while scouts and recruiters can add players on the ScoutPlus dashboard.

Player profiles have been updated with profile picture, running times, velocities, and videos.  Today will take a closer look at the middle infielders from the event. Players are listed in alphabetical order below.

Middle Infielders

Cooper Bradbury SS / 2B / Fort Scott, KS / 2020

Bradybury is an athletic 5-foot-6 140-pound left-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.47 60 an a 4.57 home to first.  He has a 76 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts slightly open stance, small and controlled leg lift, short in line stride, compact swing, shot to ball, gap to gap contact during batting practice, quick bat speed, level path, doubled to opposite gap and singled in game action.  On the infield, 75 mph positional velocity, over the top release, smooth actions, momentum through the catch, fields ball in athletic position, mostly accurate throws.

Clint Chappell SS / RHP / Mill Valley , KS / 2020

Chappell is a long limbed and strong 6-foot-4 200-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.60 60 and a 5.21 home to first.  He has an 85 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, hands separate from stride in load, in line stride, aggressive swing, middle to pull side contact during batting practice, doubled off wall in left and doubled to left-center gap in game.  On the infield, 81 mph positional velocity, short high three-quarters release, quick catch and throw, smooth footwork, soft hands, feet create momentum to throw, mostly accurate throws.

Justice Dotts 2B / Hays , KS / 2020

Dotts is a lean and loose 5-foot-9 135-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.82 60 and a 4.98 home to first.  He has a 75 mph exit velocity. At the plate, slightly open stance, leg kick, in line stride, minimal hand load, consistent line drives to middle of the field, loose hands, smooth rhythm.  On the infield, 65 mp positional velocity, high three quarters arm slot, quick transfer with fluid footwork, smooth actions, mostly accurate throws, actions and body type would suggest increases as he continues to develop.  

Ethan Haufler SS / OF / Shawnee Heights, KS / 2020

Haufler is a 5-foot-10 140-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.51 60 and a 4.96 home to first.  He has a 76 mph exit velocity. At the plate, open stance, short in line stride, aggressive bat speed, consistent gap-gap line drives, level bat path, showed pull side power. On the infield, 68 mph positional velocity, high three quarters release, footwork on time with exchange and throw, quick to the ball, momentum through the catch, clean exchange, soft hands, accurate throws.

Tyler Kotsis SS / RHP / Fort Zumwalt West, MO / 2020

Kotsis is a durable 5-foot-10 196-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.42 60 and a 4.90 home to first.  He has a 91 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced set up, controlled load into back side, no wasted movement, repeatable, mostly pull side line drives during batting practice, has power, singled to right-center gap in game action.  On the infield, 79 mph positional velocity, fluid action, high three quarters release, clean transfer on time with footwork, accurate throws, feet create momentum through the catch.

Zaden Marroquin C / SS / Olathe East , KS / 2021

Marroquin is a 5-foot-7 150-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.71 60 and a 5.09 home to first.  He has a 70 mph exit velocity. At the plate, simple and repeatable swing, starts open, short in line stride, no wasted hand movement, level bat path, gap to gap line drives, harder hit balls to pull side, singled in game action. On the infield, 67 mph positional velocity, three quarters arm slot, quick to the ball with feet, aggressive, clean transfer and throw, mostly accurate

Corey McCready 2B / SS / Blue Valley Northwest, KS / 2021

McCready is a 5-foot-8 155-pound right-handed hitting outfielder in Kansas’ 2021 class.  He ran a 7.48 60 and a 4.90 home to first.  He has an exit velocity of 75 mph. At the plate, balanced set up, leg kick, in line stride, swing produced gap to gap contact, ands work inside the ball, singled in game action. On the infield, 67 mph positional velocity, over the top release, fluid footwork to the ball with transfer, mostly accurate throws.

Colby McCurdy 2B / SS / Ottawa , KS / 2020

McCurdy is a 5-foot-9 145-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Kansas’ 2020 class.  He ran a 7.35 60 and 4.78 home to first.  He has a 79 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, smooth rhythm, minimal hand load, reverse toe tap, loose hands, aggressive bat speed, loose hands, gap to gap contact during batting practice, singled in game action.  On the infield, 67 mph, high three quarters release, loose arm action, quick catch and throw, fields ball in athletic position, athletic actions, mostly accurate throws.

Cameron Roll OF / 2B / Timberland , MO / 2020

Roll is a 5-foot-9 145-pound switch hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.60 60 and a 4.75 home to first.  He has a 71 mph right handed exit velocity and a 73 mph exit velocity from left side. At the plate, mechanics similar from both sides, balanced set up, controlled leg kick, in line stride, gap to gap approach, more consistent contact from left side, slight lift to left handed swing, tripled down left field line in game action. On the infield, 77 mph positional velocity, high three quarters release, aggressive to the ball with footwork, fluid exchange, quick release, athletic actions, mostly accurate throws flashing carry.

Bryce Ruiz 2B / RHP / Francis Howell North, MO / 2020

Ruiz is a 5-foot-11 160-pound right-handed hitting second baseman in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.60 60 and a 4.75 home to first.  He has a 76 mph exit velocity. At the plate, starts in a wide stance, loads into back side, reverse toe tap, level path through he zone, gap to gap contact during batting practice.  On the infield, 69 mph positional velocity, high three quarters release, momentum with feet after catch, fluid footwork to the ball, clean exchange, mostly accurate throws.

Trent Trammell SS / 1B / Park Hill, MO / 2020

Trammell is a strong 6-foot 160-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.33 60 and a 4.85 home to first.  He has an 87 mph exit velocity. At the plate, tall and open stance, controlled leg kick, accelerated bat, short in line stride, consistent solid contact gap to gap, path stays on ball after contact, doubled to left center in game action, loud contact to center field.  On the infield, 75 mph positional velocity, quick catch and throw, quick feet to the ball, high three quarters release, athletic actions, mostly accurate throws.

Christian Whiting SS / 2B / Lees Summit North, MO / 2020

Whiting is a 5-foot-11 140-pound right-handed hitting shortstop in Missouri’s 2020 class.  He ran a 7.54 60 and a 4.81 home to first.  He has a 79 mph exit velocity. At the plate, balanced stance, simple and repeatable, minimal load, feel for the barrel, consistent line drives gap-to-gap, flashed pull side pop, tripled to right field in game action.  On the infield, 73 mph positional velocity, short over the top release, fluid footwork with fluid actions, clean exchange, fields ball out front, accurate throws, flashing carry.
