Florida Draft Prospects

The draft is a couple weeks away and everyone knows that Florida is among the “Big 3” when it comes to baseball talent. The weather and population is conducive to producing prospects. With the draft fast approaching and Prep Baseball Report launching coverage of the state, it’s only fitting to take a peek at what Florida has to offer. Below is a list of 13 players, listed alphabetically, that could hear their name called early. It’s not a definitive ranking and there are plenty more players that deserve recognition beyond this group. This is simply a snapshot of the talent.

Nick Gordon, SS/RHP, Olympia HS, FL (Florida State)
The son of Flash and younger brother to Dee, Gordon has obvious bloodlines. Scouts questioned his ability to hit last summer, but he added strength over the winter and has solidified himself as a top 10 pick. One of the best all-around players in the class, Gordon has the actions and arm strength to stay at shortstop. He pitched as an underclassman, but has seen little, if any, time on the mound in the last year. As a rising junior, he was up to 94 with a quick arm and sharp curveball, giving him a feasible fallback if things don’t work out as a position player.
